Job summary

DMW&H is seeking an engineer to independently tackle small projects or partner with a senior engineer in designing and developing material handling systems for contracts awarded from multiple sources. The role requires interfacing with Applications Engineering, Controls, Project Management, Purchasing, Shop and Field on design, procurement, and installation.

The position reports to the Director of Project Engineering and demands a proactive, team-oriented individual with strong mechanical

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or higher or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the design and development of material handling systems.
  • Must be proactive in nature, have a good mechanical aptitude, and an ability to multitask.
  • Required interpersonal skills include good verbal and written abilities and he/she must work well with others.
  • Travel to job sites and possible extended stays (1 day to 2 weeks) is a requirement for this position. Frequency of travel is approximately six times per year.
  • Should have a foundational understanding of construction concepts and practices across architectural, electrical and structural engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and complete the engineering effort required for a given task to meet the project schedule and budget. Proactively, communicate the status of the engineering effort to management as required.
  • Work with project managers and senior project engineers to determine schedule of material.
  • Design components or sections of a total system to meet specifications including, but not limited to, throughput, load capacity, size range, and building clearances and capacity.
  • Properly apply material handling and auxiliary equipment as needed to meet project requirements and minimize total project cost (engineering, material and installation).
  • Support the preparation of an installation package that contains the drawings, special instruction, and other information that communicates all necessary technical information to installers/ subcontractors.
  • Help project manager and installation department to plan the installation effort.
  • Seek the least (total) cost and most practical solutions to system designs and technical problems considering engineering, material and installation components.
  • Evaluate job site conditions when required.
  • Compile final documentation required for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals and as-built drawings.
  • Perform project execution plans for mechanical scope of supply by establishing project procurement and engineering resource plan.
  • Establish and lead project design review meetings both for internal mechanical engineering team and controls/electrical team.
  • Order/requisition material and clearly communicate specifications and requirements, by task, in time to meet project needs, budget and schedule.
  • Utilize and develop standard procedures, designs and assemblies where possible.
  • Prepare, maintain and archive project files, drawing lists, conveyor lists and drawings, etc.
  • Responsible for protecting confidential information in accordance with company security policies.
  • Duties include following secure data handling procedures, reporting potential security incidents, and completing mandatory security awareness training to ensure compliance with privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • May be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.

Job description

Work independently on small projects or with a senior level engineer/manager in the design and development of material handling systems to fulfill contracts awarded to DMW&H from multiple outside sources. Utilize time to provide cost effective solutions within project budget and schedule constraints. Interact with Applications Engineering, Controls, Project Management, Purchasing, Shop and Field on the design, procurement, and installation of the systems being designed.

Qualifications
  • Two-year technical degree or higher or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the design and development of material handling systems.
  • Must be proactive in nature, have a good mechanical aptitude, and an ability to multitask.

  • Computer skills include Windows based operating systems and utilities, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Recap, Inventor and all Microsoft Office Products including Microsoft Outlook.

Additional Information
  • Compensation Range: $78,430 to 117,640 Annually
