Job summary

Brown Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer in California to support the project team through all construction phases, ensuring safety, on-time delivery, and budget adherence while coordinating with the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, and design partners.

You will manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and logs, conduct site walks, track schedule and costs, and assist with closeout documentation, using Procore and Bluebeam to maintain accurate project records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (required or preferred depending on company standards).
• 0–5 years of project engineering or construction management experience (internship or full-time).
• Experience in multi-family, commercial, or other large-scale construction environments preferred.
• Familiarity with construction phases, terminology, and industry practices.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office, and scheduling tools proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate project documentation and correspondence.
• Review drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies.
• Maintain logs, meeting minutes, and RFI/submittal records.
• Support site coordination with architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Monitor progress via site walks and quality checks.
• Assist with procurement, schedule tracking, and cost updates.

Job description

The Project Engineer supports the project team through all phases of construction, providing technical, administrative, and coordination assistance to ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role works closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, and design partners to maintain efficient project documentation, communication, and workflow.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

Project Documentation & Coordination

• Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and document control using project management software (Procore)
• Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify discrepancies and potential issues
• Maintain updated logs, meeting minutes, and project correspondence
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to resolve technical issues promptly

Field Support

• Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with plans
• Assist the Superintendent with tracking daily activities and verifying subcontractor work performance
• Support quality assurance/quality control processes, including punch list management
• Help ensure safety protocols are followed and assist with site documentation

Cost & Schedule Management

• Assist Project Manager with procurement, bid comparisons, and subcontractor scope reviews
• Track material deliveries, equipment needs, and long-lead items
• Support the development and maintenance of the project schedule
• Help process change orders, pay applications, and cost tracking updates

Closeout Support

• Compile O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and turnover documents
• Assist in managing final inspections and punch list completion
• Ensure accurate and complete project records for closeout and owner turnover

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (required or preferred depending on company standards)
• 0–5 years of project engineering or construction management experience (internship or full-time)

• Familiarity with construction phases, terminology, and industry practices
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam), MS Office, and scheduling tools
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Compensation

California Pay Transparency: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,000 – $115,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and location. This role may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
