Job summary

Copeland is seeking a Project Engineer to direct and coordinate engineering activities for industrial refrigeration and gas compression projects in a fast-paced environment. You will serve as the single technical contact across disciplines from inception to completion, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to safety and quality standards.

You will collaborate with sales, manufacturing, and other teams to resolve technical questions, mentor junior engineers, and travel 10–15% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in writing.
  • Willingness to travel 10–15% and lead teams.
  • Experience with compression systems or pressure piping and P&ID.

Responsibilities

  • Develop estimates for project execution and change orders.
  • Manage all engineering deliverables across disciplines from inception to completion.
  • Review compression system design for compliance with standards and specs.
  • Collaborate with sales to confirm design requirements and compliance.
  • Lead multi-functional teams to improve processes and address design issues.

Join our team and start your journey today!General Summary: The Project Engineer directs and coordinates engineering activities, deliverables, and designs for our industrial refrigeration and gas compression customers according to agreed requirements described in sales orders. The engineer is the single point of contact for all technical inquiries throughout project execution, supports the delivery of engineering results from all disciplines, and is responsible for the work they're leading. Success in this position requires the candidate to work efficiently in both a collaborative and independent environment, must be safety conscious, have good interpersonal skills with both internal and external customers, have a strong background in engineering project execution, pay high attention to details, and have a strong motivation for delivering project objectives. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: * Develop estimates for project execution, build schedules, and provide estimates for change orders.* Be accountable for all engineering deliverables and disciplines for assigned projects from inception to completion including field start-up support. Report progress, risks, and resource loading to Project and Engineering Management.* Review compression system design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, contract requirements, and related codes and specifications. Consult with sales to settle degree of compliance with customer specifications and design requirements.* Review and interpret codes and standards (ASME, CRN, NFPA, AWS, IBC, etc.) for equipment compliance.* Review and approve customer deliverable drawings, adding recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency. Chip in as a technical resource to customers, sales, and other departments to address and resolve questions and problems. Confer with vendors to investigate sources of special equipment, material, or devices.* Lead multi-functional teams to address new design issues and resolve problems to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods.* · Mentor junior engineers in processes, design, risk management, and project execution. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: Required: * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant fields with 5+ years of engineering experience. Ability to understand and address a wide variety of technical problems with little mentorship.* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely in writing and other presentation formats.* Must be an outstanding teammate, willing to learn from experienced staff and capable of introducing positive changes.* Ability to travel 10-15%.* Previous experience with Compression systems or other pressure piping systems. Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).* Understanding of manufacturing BOM structure and ERP.* Previous experience in heat transfer products or thermodynamic systems.* Demonstrated ability in leading teams.* Authorization to work in the United States now and in the future - sponsorship will not be provided for this role. Working Conditions: This position works in a typical office environment, but will have exposure to the manufacturing floor.
