Job summary

Olgoonik is seeking an engineer to lead the detailed design of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for commercial and institutional projects in Bohemia, NY and Oneida, NY. You will collaborate with clients and project teams from initial site visit through construction completion.

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of design experience in a consulting environment, a BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of broad-based design experience in a consulting environment
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• Demonstrated ability as a problem solver
• NYS Professional Engineer Registration is preferred

Responsibilities

• Detail design of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and/or low-voltage systems in commercial/institutional buildings
• Perform field inspections to gather existing condition take-offs for design/detailing
• Coordinate with clients and project stakeholders on system requirements
• Provide construction administration support including submittals, RFIs, and schedule coordination

Overview:

FPM Group, a multi-disciplined engineering, architecture, and environmental science consulting firm established in 1968, has an exciting opportunity in our Bohemia, NY and Oneida, NY offices.

Work closely with clients and project team members in the development of construction documents for institutional and private clientele for a wide array of challenging projects, from the first field visit through the successful completion of construction.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the detailed design of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and/or low-voltage electrical systems in commercial and institutional buildings
• Perform field inspections of existing buildings to obtain existing condition take-offs needed for design and detailing work
• Work with clients and other project stakeholders to determine and coordinate overall system requirements
• Construction administration services – submittal and shop drawing reviews, review and respond to RFI, schedule coordination, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervisory responsibilities are not anticipated.

Education and/or Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of broad-based design experience as an engineer within a consulting environment
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• Demonstrated ability as a problem solver

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong AutoCAD skills
• Competency with MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
• Experience with online project management platforms such as BlueBeam, ProCore, and SubmittalExchange
• Direct experience in systems installation or with a contractor is a plus
• Professional Engineer licensure is a plus
• Strong AutoCAD skills.
• Demonstrated ability as a problem solver.
