Job summary

James McHugh Construction Co. in Chicago seeks a Project Engineer to assist in managing projects, including processing and tracking submittals, RFIs, ASIs/Construction Change Directives, document control, pricing proposal requests, tenant upgrades, and updating project schedules.

You will be part of the Operations Department, reporting to the Project Manager and collaborating with the project team, safety, accounting and other internal departments to ensure high-quality work and clear, effective

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in engineering, construction management or related construction field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfort with a variety of computer software products.
  • Ability to work within high-performing project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and track RFIs and submittals to Architect/Owner for review and approval; maintain status reports.
  • Create and maintain a revisions log to ensure updated drawings and specs.
  • Manage project record keeping.
  • Coordinate with project superintendent and subcontractors to ensure clear information flow.
  • Collaborate with safety, accounting, legal, HR and marketing departments.
  • Communicate and assist in enforcing safe working standards on projects.
  • Ensure high quality of work on projects.
  • Communicate externally and internally clearly and effectively.

Job description

We are seeking a new Project Engineer to join our team. You will assist in managing projects, including processing and tracking submittals, RFIs, ASIs/Construction Change Directives, document control, pricing proposal requests, tenant upgrades, and updating project schedules. As a member of the Operations Department, you will work with the Project Team and report to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and track RFIs and submittals to the Architect and Owner for review and approval; distribute responses to all involved parties and maintain a status report.
  • Create and maintain a revisions log of contract documents to ensure the key team members have the most updated construction drawings and specifications.
  • Manage project record keeping.
  • Coordinate work with the project superintendent and subcontractors to ensure information regarding the project is communicated and understood.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments and employees including safety, accounting, legal, human resources, and marketing.
  • Communicate and assist in enforcing safe working standards on projects.
  • Ensure high quality of work is performed on projects.
  • Always communicate externally and internally in a clear, effective manner.
Qualifications
  • 4-year degree (engineering, construction management or related construction degree).
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented and able to problem‑solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of computer software products.
  • Willingness to work as an integral part of high‑performing project teams; may be assigned to more than one project of varying size and type.
