Job description

Targeted HR Consulting is actively recruiting on behalf of a leading infrastructure contractor in the Carolinas for an immediate opening in Raleigh, NC. Our client specializes in mid-sized transportation and infrastructure projects and is recognized for their high standards and strong pipeline of DOT and municipal work.

We’re seeking a Project Engineer who is enthusiastic, confident, and eager to contribute to complex construction projects. This is a great opportunity for someone with 1–3 years of field or project engineering experience who wants to join a company that offers mentorship, growth, and competitive compensation.

Position Overview

The Project Engineer will support technical and field operations for active infrastructure projects. You’ll be responsible for coordinating field activities, managing documentation, controlling costs and quantities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials. You’ll work closely with the project manager, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to help ensure each project meets performance, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare submittals and RFIs for owner/client approval

  • Analyze project specifications and plans; coordinate with the team on technical requirements, design changes, and field issues

  • Track quantities and progress for cost control and client billing

  • Coordinate with subcontractors to maintain project schedule and quality standards

  • Develop and update the CPM schedule (Critical Path Method) weekly

  • Assist with temporary works planning, such as shoring, falsework, and formwork

  • Procure and track delivery of permanent materials

  • Submit quality control certifications and ensure all work complies with plans and specifications

  • Review shop drawings, as-builts, and related documentation for completeness and accuracy

  • Create safe and efficient work plans for project execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (required)

  • 1–3 years of DOT, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction experience (required)

  • NCDOT project experience strongly preferred; candidates from both large general contractors and small to mid-sized subs welcome

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, BlueBeam, and CAD

  • Familiarity with P6 scheduling and HCSS is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship
