Position Summary:

A leading heavy civil contractor headquartered in Centennial, CO is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join their field operations team. This full-time role will support large-scale heavy highway and bridge construction projects, including DOT-led design-bid-build and CM/GC contracts.

The ideal candidate will bring 3–5+ years of experience in a project engineer capacity on major transportation infrastructure work — with proven exposure to bridge construction, MSE wall systems, asphalt paving, underground utilities, and stormwater drainage systems.

This is a key role with a direct path to Project Manager for candidates seeking long-term growth with a well-respected and growing heavy civil firm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support field operations across multi-disciplinary heavy civil scopes including:
• MSE walls and retaining structures
• Asphalt paving and subgrade prep (fine grading, compaction)
• Roadway excavation, mass grading, and embankment construction
• Drainage systems, culverts, stormwater infrastructure
• Utility coordination and relocation (as applicable per DOT specs)
• Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with:
• Daily progress tracking, quantity logs, and subcontractor coordination
• RFIs, submittals, change orders, and document control
• Schedule updates and look-ahead planning using CPM tools
• Safety inspections, quality control coordination, and environmental compliance
• Attend preconstruction and project meetings with CDOT, municipalities, and stakeholders
• Interface with field crews and ensure clear communication of plans/specs
• Prepare and maintain field documentation and compliance logs
• Support cost reporting, billing, and forecasting processes

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (required)
• 3–5+ years of experience in transportation infrastructure or heavy civil projects
• Experience working on DOT projects (CDOT preferred)
• Familiarity with heavy civil scopes including MSE walls, bridges, paving, drainage, and earthwork
• Strong understanding of highway project sequencing, traffic control, and environmental best practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Procore, HCSS)
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• EIT preferred; PE license a plus but not required
