Project Engineer - Looking to spin plates and build solutions?
This role is about taking complex, custom-built automation projects from concept to reality — and keeping every moving part on track while the clock is ticking and the stakes are high.
The client design and deliver bespoke automation projects. You’ll be the one who keeps the technical side on the rails. From translating customer requirements into reality, to making sure every nut, bolt, and air line ends up exactly where it should be, you’ll be part designer, part organiser, part firefighter.
You won’t be sat in a corner waiting for someone to tell you what to do. You’ll be in kick-off meetings, building schedules, checking budgets, reviewing specs, and making the call on whether that supplier’s design is good enough. You’ll be in the workshop seeing your decisions come to life, and sometimes on the road making sure they work in the customer’s plant.
What you’ll be doing
- Turning customer specifications into workable technical plans and sequences.
- Overseeing mechanical, pneumatic, and process elements of projects.
- Chairing design reviews and resolving open issues before they become problems.
- Coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers to hit deadlines.
- Validating designs through simulation and risk assessment.
- Supporting installation, commissioning, and final sign-off at customer sites.
- Producing the documentation, manuals, and maintenance guides customers need.
What you’ll need
- A mechanical or related engineering degree (or solid hands-on experience in automation).
- Strong grasp of mechanical systems, design principles, and integration.
- Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and preferably simulation software.
- The ability to juggle multiple moving parts without dropping the ball.
- Good people skills – because you’ll be dealing with customers, suppliers, and your own project team.
- A willingness to travel occasionally and get hands-on with the kit.
- This isn’t just another project role. It’s for someone who likes seeing things move, literally, and takes pride in knowing it works because they made it work.
