Job summary

The Axel Group is seeking a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer for our client’s team on a long-term life sciences construction program in Atlanta, GA. The role emphasizes coordinating multi-discipline systems, reviewing drawings, and managing RFIs and submittals to support project leadership.

You will collaborate with subcontractors, vendors, design teams, and field personnel, maintain logs, assist with change management, procurement, and commissioning efforts, and help ensure work

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial construction, with preference for life sciences, laboratories, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or mission-critical projects.
  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing multiple project scopes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, startup, turnover, or specialty building systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency with tools like Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar construction management platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred but not required based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support project management, field supervision, and leadership in day-to-day project execution.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other documentation.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Assist with change orders, scope revisions, and change management.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, design teams, consultants, and field personnel.
  • Maintain project logs and monitor outstanding RFIs, submittals, procurement, and design issues.
  • Support subcontractor buyout, procurement, material tracking, and long-lead equipment.
  • Assist with coordination of architectural, structural, MEP, controls, and specialty building systems.
  • Participate in project meetings with subcontractors, owners, and design teams.
  • Update schedules and track critical project activities.
  • Work with field teams to resolve constructability and coordination issues.
  • Support permitting, inspections, testing, commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and facilitate communication between office and field teams.
  • Contribute to quality control efforts to ensure work aligns with plans and specifications.
  • Develop strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.

Salary range up to $150,000 annually
