This Opportunity

WSP USA is looking for talented individuals to join our team as a Project Director with a focus on to support the company’s growing Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change Group. See wsp.com/advancingsustainability for a description of our team and capabilities.

The individual will assist client-facing teams in the design, implementation, and management of organizational sustainability programs, with demonstrated focus on waste management and circular economy services. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility and capacity to work on a wide variety of projects and the demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability, self-motivated and self-directed, collaborative, and able to produce high-quality work products.

Preferred Location of the position is New York City, NY; San Diego, CA; or Chicago, IL. SECC also resides in WSP offices in Arlington, VA; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Bethlehem PA, Portland, OR; Buffalo NY; and Boulder, CO. Other WSP office locations or remote options may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Your Impact

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading the development and implementation of zero waste programs and certification at the facility- and organizational-levels
  • Providing project management for a broad array of sustainability, waste, and circular economy tasks
  • Developing opportunities for integrating circular economy elements into organizations’ strategic sustainability roadmaps
  • Technical experience in evaluating and implementing circular economy strategies for business and/or municipalities
  • Designing and delivering circularity performance metrics, targets, and accompanying strategies and achievement plans
  • Performing technical analysis related to packaging engineering, materials formulation, waste and recycling infrastructure systems design, and life cycle assessments focused on downstream and end-of-life analysis
  • Supporting business development activities with existing and prospective clients
  • Managing client relationships
  • Engaging in thought leadership through public speaking and technical publications
  • Supporting strategic development of team approach and capabilities for waste and circular economy services
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, engineering, sustainability, or sustainable business management required
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional consulting experience
  • Experience in implementing zero waste and/or circular economy
  • Experience in management consulting
  • Experience managing projects for a diverse pool of clients from the private, public, and non-profit sectors
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, maturity, credibility, confidence, and integrity
  • Understanding of best practices and innovations related to data center zero waste management, forward procurement agreements, and zero waste service funding structure(s)
  • Experience in materials management, circular economy and zero waste
  • Familiarity with national and global policy pertaining to circularity, such as EPR policies, EU Taxonomy and CSRD
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and participation in industry associations focused on zero waste and circular economy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and use of programs including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to develop and present analyses using programs including Microsoft Excel, Access, and Power BI
  • Ability to collaborate remotely across geographies and platforms
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • Master’s degree in environmental studies, engineering, sustainability, or sustainable business management
  • Detailed knowledge of zero waste and circular economy standards and certifications

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $81,500 - $145,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $81,500 - $136,290

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
