About the Company

Our client is a highly respected, established St. Louis commercial general contractor and construction manager with more than 50 years of experience in the construction industry.

Healthcare is already a significant and established part of the organization. The company has extensive healthcare construction experience, dedicated healthcare personnel and processes, and long-standing relationships with healthcare clients throughout the region. Their services include preconstruction, construction management, general contracting, and design/build.

Their healthcare portfolio includes $2B in healthcare expertise, 60+ medical office buildings, and experience across 30+ healthcare campuses.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Market Executive / Project Director-level construction professional to help lead and strategically grow the company`s healthcare market.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has spent a significant portion of their career building and leading complex healthcare construction projects and is ready to transition away from the day-to-day management of individual projects into a broader leadership position focused on client relationships, business development, market strategy, and high-level project oversight.

This is not a traditional sales or pure business development position. The ideal candidate comes from a strong construction operations background and has the credibility to understand and oversee complex healthcare projects while also having the personality, relationships, and passion to operate on the front end of the business.

The role is centered around four primary areas: leadership, business development, project oversight, and relationship management.

Role & Company Highlights
  • $200K–$220K base salary
  • Senior-level leadership opportunity within an established St. Louis contractor
  • Help develop and execute the company`s healthcare market strategy
  • Focus on building and maintaining healthcare client relationships
  • Identify and pursue new healthcare construction opportunities
  • Lead and support pursuits, presentations, proposals, and negotiations
  • Oversee healthcare projects and project teams at a high level
  • Mentor and develop Project Directors and project teams
  • Established healthcare portfolio rather than building a market from scratch
  • More than $2B in healthcare expertise
  • Experience across 30+ healthcare campuses
  • 60+ medical office buildings
  • Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to continue growing the healthcare construction market
  • Identify new business opportunities, target clients, and develop strategic partnerships
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with healthcare owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and industry partners
  • Partner with Client Development to lead healthcare pursuits
  • Participate in proposal preparation, interview preparation and presentations, negotiations, debriefs, and contract execution
  • Help evaluate potential opportunities and participate in go/no-go decisions
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients to drive repeat business
  • Monitor healthcare market trends, competitors, and future opportunities
  • Provide high-level oversight of healthcare project execution, including schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction
  • Support projects throughout pursuit, preconstruction, construction, closeout, and warranty
  • Review estimates, schedules, project financials, and overall project performance
  • Lead, mentor, recruit, and develop project teams
  • Represent the company within healthcare industry organizations, associations, conferences, and events
  • Serve as a key relationship leader and primary point of contact for strategic healthcare accounts
Requirements
  • 15+ years of construction industry experience
  • 10+ years focused specifically on healthcare construction
  • Proven experience successfully managing large and complex construction projects
  • 7+ years of leadership and team management experience
  • Strong operational background within commercial/healthcare construction
  • Project Director, Project Executive, or comparable senior-level experience preferred
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with healthcare clients and industry partners
  • Experience participating in business development, pursuits, presentations, and winning work
  • Strong understanding of healthcare construction delivery methods
  • Thorough understanding of scheduling, cost control, procurement, estimating, preconstruction, and project financials
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and executive leadership
  • Bachelor`s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to travel, with most travel being local and regional
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has spent 15–20+ years building healthcare projects, has proven themselves operationally, and is ready for the next stage of their career.

Rather than continuing to manage the day-to-day details of individual projects, this individual wants to leverage their construction expertise to build relationships, capture new work, maintain key clients, mentor teams, and help strategically grow an established healthcare construction market.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned healthcare construction leader who still wants to remain connected to operations but is passionate about moving toward the client relationship and market leadership side of the business.
