Project Development Manager, Community Solar and DG

Trina Solar International System Business Unit (ISBU) is the project development and investment business unit of Trina Solar, a global leader of smart energy solutions provider. Our team has established a track record of 10.5+ GW of grid-connected projects globally.

Trina Solar US Project Development & Investment team is looking for a highly accomplished renewable energy Project Development Manager, Community Solar and DG to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong entrepreneur to advance their career to the next level. Reporting to the Head of Development, Community Solar & DG, the manager will work with cross-functional teams to deliver successful projects.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Originate community solar project development opportunities focused on site control and evaluating feasibility of project interconnection, permitting, and revenue contracts
  • Identify local early-stage developers that will co-develop with Trina and lead deal structuring and commercial negotiations for project acquisition or other partnership structures such as development services agreement or joint development agreement
  • Identify and organize the greenfield development of solar projects by creating and updating project maps and databases using GIS tools based on attractive interconnection points in target regions
  • Prospect and contract suitable greenfield and brownfield sites thru land options, leases, and sales with landowners
  • Conduct state regulatory community solar policy research, and set up the market strategy
  • Understand all the federal and state level of special subsidy for community solar, and power subscription policy
  • Conduct land, market, regulatory, and related project research
  • Based on site control, research potential revenue opportunities for each specific site.
  • Coordinate the tasks and inputs of the supporting functions such as Legal, Engineering, Finance, and Project Management
  • Coordinate financial modeling to assess project economics
  • Keep fully informed in a timely manner on market development and industry news/events in order to quickly identify business opportunities
  • Track record of successfully negotiating and closing commercial transactions with landlords, developers, utilities, regulatory agencies, and offtakers
  • Minimum 5+ years professional experience in the energy industry in senior roles within business development and/or project development functions.
  • BS degree required, MBA or relevant masters preferred
  • Knowledge of the solar industry, distributed storage (BESS) industry, specific Midwest regional regulations, and market mechanisms
  • The following experience are a plus: IPP project acquisition, community solar, northeastern community solar and distributed solar markets analysis, multinational environment, legal, full cycle development
