Job summary

Fluid Interiors in Minneapolis is seeking a Project Designer to deliver design services, including furniture selection, specification, and budgeting support. You will collaborate with sales, order entry, and installation teams and coordinate with manufacturers to ensure accurate plans and profitable projects.

The role requires strong knowledge of interior design, workplace ergonomics, and contract furniture processes.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in contract furniture design is required.
  • Must have excellent time management skills.
  • Possess organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and willing to take initiative.
  • This role will be eligible for hybrid work.

Responsibilities

  • Attend client planning meetings and present plans for review and approvals.
  • Review site and conduct field measurements.
  • Live design with client with an Account Executive.
  • Inventory existing product and produce as-built drawings/specifications.
  • Clarify scope by programming analysis and interviewing customers.
  • Develop working drawings for specification and installation.
  • Prepare product specifications and order-entry details.
  • Coordinate with installation group and field punch-list reviews.
  • Understand project financials and profitability.
  • Monitor design hours to stay within estimated hours.
  • Collaborate with client teams and third-party firms.
  • Coordinate with manufacturer reps for pricing and updates.

Requirements: Using professional design knowledge, the Project Designer provides design services including furniture selection, specification and pricing to customers including proposal and budgeting assistance. Works closely with sales, order entry and installation groups, as well as customers, to ensure accurate plans and specifications, to achieve customer satisfaction and high-quality project implementation and profitability. Coordinates and maintains relationships with manufacturer and independent furniture representatives.

What You Will Do
  • Attend client planning meetings; presents plans and information to customer for review and approvals.
  • Review site and conducts field measurements.
  • Live design with client with an Account Executive.
  • Inventory existing product; produces as-built drawings/specifications.
  • Clarify scope and expectation by conducting programming analysis, interviewing customer/end users, researching workplace requirements, and analyzing furniture needs
  • Develop working drawings for specification and installation
  • Develop product specifications, double-checks specifications against plans, and prepares specifications for order-entry using electronic specification program.
  • Conduct field and punch-list review with installation group.
  • Understand projects financial information and profitability.
  • Monitor design hours on all projects to ensure actual time spent on design work is reasonable and within the estimated hours for those projects.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, and clients' third-party firms, including A&D firms, interior contractors, electrical and communication engineers, customer’s IT group, etc.
  • Collaborate with manufacturer representatives to gain accurate and best pricing.
  • Coordinate with manufacturer representative presentations and catalog updates.
What You Bring
  • Strong knowledge of interior design field and current practices.
  • Understanding of workplace environment issues including ergonomics, technology integration, and alternative workspaces.
  • Working knowledge of contract furniture lines, including features/benefits, pricing, application, and specification options.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA regulations, National Electrical Code, etc.
  • Understanding of contract furniture processes, including order preparation, project management, order management and delivery/installation.
  • Strong knowledge of dealerships, furniture vendors, furniture specification and current industry practices.
  • Working knowledge of contract furniture lines, pricing, application, assembly and specification options.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, especially Power Point, Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of contract furniture processes, including order preparation, project management, order management and delivery/installation.
  • Experience in product application and specification of Haworth seating, wood/metal casegoods, tables, etc.
Qualifications and skills you have
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design required
  • 2-3 years of experience in contract furniture design is required.
  • Must have excellent time management skills.
  • Possess organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and willing to take initiative.
