Job description

The Interior Designer is accountable for creating the design vision and delivering fully developed, buildable construction design packages using Chief Architect. This role leads clients through the design process from concept to production handoff, ensuring all selections, drawings, and documentation align with project goals, budget, code requirements, and the company’s high design standards. Flexible schedule negotiable for the right fit.

Position Specific:

Chief Architect Preferred & Construction Documentation

Develop complete drawing sets using Chief Architect (existing, proposed, elevations, sections, 3D renderings, details).

Conduct field measurements, photography, and site verification to develop accurate as-built drawings.

Ensure drawings are code-compliant, structurally feasible, and “buildable.”

Assist in preparing &/ or coordinating all required documents for permit submittals (architectural, CalGreen, Title 24, structural).

Design Development

Lead concept development, space planning, and schematic design with high attention to function and aesthetics.

Produce and present client deliverables: design concepts, material palettes, finish schedules, renderings, and mood boards.

Select and specify all interior finish materials (fixtures, tile, hardware, flooring, etc.) based on style and budget.

Communicate design intent clearly to engineering, estimating, and production.

Lead client-facing design meetings from kickoff through final selections.

Work hand-in-hand with Estimating and Production to ensure alignment between selections, drawings, and project budget.

Attend job walks and provide design clarification throughout construction as needed.

Strategic Work

Ensure every drawing set is exceptionally detailed, accurate, and compliant with building codes.

Maintain current working knowledge of Chief Architect updates, residential design trends, construction materials, and California building code requirements.

Participate in value engineering — identifying cost-effective design solutions without compromising design intent.

Manage and prioritize a multi-project workload while maintaining deadlines and quality.

Tactical Work:

Communicate with clients to understand their vision, lifestyle, goals, aesthetic preferences, and budget

Translate client concepts into cohesive, functional, and buildable designs that reflect both creativity and technical accuracy

Produce detailed construction drawings, 3D models, and supporting documentation using Chief Architect (AutoCAD proficiency preferred)

Ensure all design documentation complies with Title 24, CalGreen, local building codes, and site‑specific requirements

Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and other consultants to finalize comprehensive drawing sets

Partner with Pre‑Construction and Project Managers to ensure handoff clarity and constructability

Communicate consistently with clients and team members, providing proactive updates and thorough follow‑through

Maintain organized and detailed project notes, design files, revisions, and specification documentation

Attend weekly design pipeline meetings and present clear status updates

Support team success by assisting with design tasks on other projects when needed
