Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Project Controls Professional to manage budgets, forecasts, and schedules for Western U.S. projects.

You will support project execution from setup through monitoring costs, schedules, and procurement, delivering weekly updates to Project Managers and contributing to monthly reviews. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in engineering consulting project controls, proficiency with Excel, and experience with EV progress, subcontracts, and WBS maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in cost management, engineering, project management, accounting or finance.
  • Experience with EcoSys IPCS or similar EV/ERP tools is advantageous.
  • Understanding of contracting mechanisms (T&M, Lump Sum, Cost Plus Fee, Unit Price/T&M).
  • Strong Excel and MS Office proficiency; working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and manage project financials, budgets, and cost forecasts.
  • Monitor cost, schedule, and budget against baselines; maintain WBS.
  • Prepare procurement forms and review subcontractor invoices.
  • Provide weekly financial updates and participate in monthly project reviews.
  • Support change management and maintain change logs.

Your impact

Jacobs is looking for an organized and driven Project Controls Professional based in the Western U.S. In this role, you'll maintain project ledgers showing budget line items, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts. You’ll also perform project control tasks to assist the operations team with the success of the project from new project setup through monitoring of cost, schedule, budget, and procedures. As a Project Controls professional, you’ll prepare project financial setup documents. Project Managers will rely on you for project execution support, as you provide them with weekly financial updates and prepare for and participate in monthly project reviews. You’ll also work with them and the operations team to establish and maintain a project work breakdown structure (WBS). As you perform weekly financial reviews, you’ll identify and make any necessary corrections. You’ll monitor budgets against actual costs and forecasts, ensuring accurate cost tracking. Subcontract related responsibilities include preparing procurement forms for subcontract initiation, assisting with the subcontractor invoice review process, and tracking budget, expenditures and contract term for all subcontracts (and initiate term extensions and closures when needed). You’ll provide change management support, including maintenance of project change logs.

Here's what you'll need
  • 5+ years professional experience in the engineering consulting industry as a project controls professional setting up projects, managing budgets and schedules, and monitoring subcontracts.
  • Experience in using and understanding earned value progress and experience in all phases of home office engineering
  • An understanding of accounting fundamentals and practices.
  • Computer skills (Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, working knowledge within Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • An aptitude to learn.
  • Ability to solve a range of basic problems and analyze possible solutions.
  • Perform a range of straight-forward assignments.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Cost Management, Engineering, Project Management, Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience working in EcoSys (IPCS), and reporting.
  • Experience with a variety of contract mechanisms (Time & Materials [T&M], Lump Sum, Cost Plus Fee, Unit Price/T&M).
  • Previous experience and understanding of client contracts, bid and proposal documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

The base salary range for this position is $79,900.00 to $110,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
