Job summary

Michels Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Project Controls Manager to lead cost management, forecasting, budgeting, and scheduling for large-scale hyperscale data center projects. You will partner with PMs, schedulers, procurement, and accounting to drive performance and proactive risk management.

You will deliver executive dashboards, ensure forecast accuracy, and support project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout, enabling informed decision-making and successful project

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or related field and 7+ years of project controls or EPC experience.
  • Experience with large-scale data-center or mission-critical builds preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cost management, forecasting, budgeting, EVM and scheduling integration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project controls for hyperscale data center projects, including cost management and forecasting.
  • Develop and maintain project controls procedures, dashboards, and governance standards.
  • Collaborate with PM, schedulers, procurement, and accounting to evaluate performance and forecast outcomes.

Position Overview

As a Project Controls Manager, you will lead project controls activities supporting large-scale hyperscale data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for overseeing cost management, forecasting, budgeting, scheduling integration, progress measurement, risk management, reporting, and project performance analysis throughout the project lifecycle.

This role serves as a critical partner to project management, construction leadership, engineering, procurement, scheduling, accounting, and executive leadership teams. You will provide the visibility and analytics necessary to support decision-making, manage risk, improve forecasting accuracy, and ensure projects are positioned for successful delivery.

Success requires strong analytical capabilities, financial acumen, organizational leadership, and a deep understanding of engineering, procurement, and construction execution processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project controls processes including cost management, forecasting, progress measurement, scheduling integration, risk management, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain project controls procedures, reporting frameworks, performance metrics, and governance standards.
  • Monitor project financial performance, budgets, commitments, forecasts, productivity trends, and cost impacts.
  • Partner with project teams to identify project risks, opportunities, and corrective actions that support successful project execution.
  • Support executive reporting and provide visibility into project health, performance, and forecasted outcomes.
  • Drive consistency and continuous improvement across project controls practices, systems, and reporting processes.
What You'll Do
  • Manage project controls activities supporting hyperscale data centers and mission-critical infrastructure projects from preconstruction through project closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, earned value metrics, and executive performance dashboards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, schedulers, procurement teams, field leadership, and accounting teams to evaluate project performance and forecast outcomes.
  • Analyze labor productivity, equipment utilization, procurement status, schedule performance, change management activities, and risk exposure.
  • Support monthly forecasting cycles, project reviews, executive updates, and portfolio reporting activities.
  • Facilitate project controls reviews, risk assessments, trend analysis, and corrective action planning sessions.
  • Provide recommendations that improve cost performance, schedule reliability, forecasting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Support startup, commissioning, turnover, and closeout reporting requirements.

What It Takes
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Business, or a related discipline and 7+ years of project controls, cost controls, project management, engineering, scheduling, or EPC construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale mission-critical, data center, industrial, power, EPC, infrastructure, or complex commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of project controls principles including cost management, forecasting, budgeting, earned value management, scheduling integration, progress measurement, and risk management.
  • Experience developing and managing project budgets, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, executive dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Experience collaborating with project management, field operations, estimating, procurement, engineering, scheduling, and accounting teams.
  • Ability to analyze project financial performance, productivity trends, schedule impacts, change management issues, and operational risks.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, Excel, InEight, Oracle Primavera, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, SAP, Oracle, or similar project controls platforms.
  • Knowledge of earned value management (EVM), KPI development, forecasting methodologies, and portfolio reporting practices preferred.
  • Experience supporting executive project reviews, portfolio management activities, and organizational reporting initiatives preferred.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and support onsite project assignments as required.
