Job Summary

Project estimators play a pivotal role in predicting costs related to nuclear projects. Their primary duties involve analyzing project specifications, technical drawings, and design documentation to accurately determine the expenses and timescales associated with nuclear implementation, construction, and maintenance projects. The role is critical in ensuring that nuclear projects adhere to budgetary and scheduling constraints while maintaining stringent safety and quality standards.

Job Description
Key Accountabilities
  1. Project Analysis: Analyze nuclear project drawings, specifications, and design/technical documentation to understand the project's scope and requirements, while adhering to industry regulatory requirements.
  2. Accurate Cost Forecasting: Use specialist cost estimation software and techniques to forecast material, consumables, labor, equipment, fees, and overhead costs.
  3. Quality Documentation: Document details, bases, and key assumptions related to the cost estimate.
  4. Fleet Estimating: Provide estimates for nuclear projects across the fleet, supporting both PWR and BWR facilities.
  5. Cost Estimate Re-evaluation: Re-evaluate cost estimates during the Long Range Planning (LRP) process for future years.
  6. Supplier and Vendor Interaction: Research and obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors; oversee the accuracy of cost estimates.
  7. Collaboration for Refinement: Work closely with engineers, project managers, safety staff, and regulatory compliance teams to refine estimates and ensure compliance.
  8. Stakeholder Communication: Present detailed cost estimates to the project team and site stakeholders/management.
Education, Experience & Skills Requirements

Skills and Knowledge

  • Technical expertise in analytical and mathematical assessment of nuclear project requirements.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in reviewing documentation and performing cost calculations, with safety and regulatory compliance in mind.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and presentation.
  • Familiarity with nuclear engineering principles, materials, equipment, and construction techniques.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and uphold safety and quality standards.

Education

  • Bachelor's or technical degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.

Professional Certifications (recommended)

  • Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCEA) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP), with specialization in nuclear projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

On-the-Job Experience

  • At least 10 years of project engineering and/or project management experience.
  • 3-5 years of project estimation experience.
