Job Description

WSP is currently seeking a Project Controls Consultant to join its growing Earth & Environment (E&E) Operations team in Texas and Louisiana.

The Project Controls Consultant will support all phases of the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and project closeout. The position will provide project controls and commercial management support for a diverse portfolio of Earth and Environment projects, including site characterization and remediation, environmental planning and permitting, and civil and geotechnical engineering.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project and Technical Managers to support project delivery, financial performance, scheduling, forecasting, and resource management helping to ensure projects are executed efficiently and delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements and client expectations.

This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, along with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to drive successful project outcomes and enhance overall project performance.

Your Impact

As a Project Controls Consultant, you will play a key role in supporting project delivery, financial performance, and operational excellence across a diverse portfolio of environmental and engineering projects providing a critical link between technical project execution and commercial performance.

  • Establishing, coordinating, and, where appropriate, managing projects in accordance with WSP's Project Delivery Manual and established quality management procedures.
  • Collaborating with project teams to monitor and control project budgets, expenditures, schedules, and overall performance.
  • Providing timely and accurate updates on project status, controls, financial performance, and forecasting trends to Project and Technical Managers.
  • Coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, including the preparation of work orders, purchase authorizations, and payment processing.
  • Developing and maintaining project budgets and schedules, proactively identifying risks, variances, and corrective actions.
  • Partnering with accounting and finance teams to ensure compliance with client invoicing requirements, support invoice preparation, and facilitate timely collections.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and tracking of project-specific Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) requirements and plans.
  • Facilitating effective project communications, documenting client interactions, meeting outcomes, and key project decisions.
  • Identifying scope changes and preparing change orders to support effective contract and financial management.
  • Reviewing project resource requirements and coordinating staff assignments and work orders.
  • Serving as a client-facing representative as directed by Project Managers and Technical Managers.
  • Coordinating the preparation, quality review, and timely distribution of project deliverables.
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of project notifications, regulatory correspondence, and other required documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date project records within designated document management and control systems.
  • Supporting proposal development efforts by coordinating contributors, schedules, and submission requirements.
  • Leading project closeout activities, including document archiving, lessons learned reviews, client feedback collection, subcontractor performance evaluations, and project experience documentation.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, preferably complemented by coursework or experience in environmental science, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in project controls, project coordination, financial management, or related disciplines.
  • Foundational understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial, schedule, and project documentation.
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines, balance competing priorities, and adapt to changing project demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new processes, systems, and procedures while maintaining a strong focus on client service.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and collaborative team player with a flexible, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Advanced proficiency with project management and business software, including Oracle Primavera (P6 Scheduler, Portfolio Manager, and related applications), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Project), and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Prior experience within an engineering, environmental consulting, or professional services organization is highly desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting field operations, procurement activities, or supply chain logistics is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with environmental consulting, remediation, permitting, civil engineering, or related technical disciplines is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, with a proven record of adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Flexibility to accommodate project-specific schedules, including occasional work outside standard business hours as required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project and client needs.
