Job summary

Worley seeks a Project Construction Director – Power Projects in Houston to lead construction on a major power generation project, acting as Worley’s senior field representative and on-site construction leader.

Qualifications

  • Strong strategic leadership to translate objectives into construction plans.
  • Deep understanding of power generation construction methodologies and field execution.

Job description

Overview

Project Construction Director – Power Projects (HOU04DP) for Worley. Lead construction execution on a major power generation project, acting as Worley’s senior field representative and on-site senior construction leader. Drive safe, predictable delivery, and excellence across multidisciplinary teams, engaging with customers and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives and contractual commitments.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the senior on-site Worley representative and primary interface with the project team, customer leadership, contractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide overall leadership, governance, and direction for all construction activities across a complex power generation project.
  • Lead construction execution strategies to deliver large-scale power facilities, including cogeneration and other advanced power technologies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customer executives, project leadership, contractors, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual requirements and company standards.
  • Develop and implement integrated construction execution plans, site management strategies, and delivery methodologies aligned with project and customer objectives.
  • Lead multiple Construction Managers, Area Managers, Superintendents, and discipline leaders to ensure consistent execution across all project work fronts.
  • Drive alignment between project strategy, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Provide leadership across all field construction disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and commissioning support).
  • Lead workforce planning, contractor management, talent deployment, and succession planning across the project site.
  • Monitor project performance, productivity, quality, safety, schedule, and cost metrics; drive corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate execution risks that could impact project outcomes.
  • Lead complex problem-solving involving technical, operational, commercial, and stakeholder challenges.
  • Support contract execution strategies through effective risk management, change management, and commercial objectives.
  • Participate in executive-level project reviews and provide strategic recommendations on performance, recovery, and execution improvements.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence through innovation, productivity improvements, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements; reinforce a safety-first culture on the project.
  • Manage critical stakeholder communications during major milestones and significant events.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives and responsible construction practices aligned with Worley’s commitments.
  • Support development and implementation of construction best practices, systems, tools, and delivery frameworks to improve project outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Typically 20+ years of progressive construction leadership experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, industrial construction, or major capital projects.
  • Extensive experience leading the construction execution of large-scale power generation projects, including cogeneration facilities.
  • Proven experience as the senior construction leader on major EPC or EPCM projects with significant capital value and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Experience leading large construction organizations through Construction Managers, Area Managers, Superintendents, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong strategic leadership to translate business objectives into executable construction strategies.
  • Deep understanding of power generation construction methodologies, project delivery models, commissioning interfaces, and field execution best practices.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction.
  • Commercial and contractual knowledge including risk management, forecasting, change management, claims avoidance, and cost control.
  • Ability to make independent, high-impact decisions influencing project strategy and outcomes.
  • Experience building trusted customer relationships and advising customer leadership and executives.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills with experience presenting to executive leadership and customer decision-makers.
  • Proven leadership to build high-performing teams and foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced understanding of construction management systems, project controls, scheduling methodologies, productivity tools, and digital construction technologies.
  • Commitment to operational excellence, innovation, sustainability, workforce development, and customer success.
  • Typically requires the ability to reside or travel as needed to meet project demands.
