Job summary

Balfour Beatty US is seeking a Project Business Manager to join the senior management team led by the Project Manager, directing financial activities for the project.

Responsibilities include maintaining GAAP-based financial records, producing monthly reports, forecasting budgets and overhead, and overseeing SG&A reviews and cost control. The role requires strong leadership and financial analysis within heavy civil construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintain financial records for the project in accordance with GAAP and SOPs.
• Provide monthly financial reports to management.
• Prepare detailed project and overhead forecasts.
• Maintain a strong control environment and cash forecasting.
• Monitor budgets, expenses and variance reporting with leadership.
• Lead monthly SG&A reviews and drive cost-reduction initiatives.

Job description

The Project Business Manager will be one of the senior members of the management team led by the Project Manager that is responsible for direction and management of the project.

Responsibilities:

The Project Business Manager shall have responsibility for the financial management of the project, including, without limitation:

1. maintaining the financial records of the project in accordance with BBII Standard Operating Procedures and GAAP, as well as all support functions (e.g., invoicing, AP, payroll, preparation of reports, etc.);
2. providing monthly financial reports to Divisional and Corporate Management;
3. preparing detailed Project and overhead cost / revenue forecasts;
4. maintaining a control environment consistent with BBII SOP’s
5. cash forecasting and management.

Other Responsibilities:

• Perform responsibilities in a "Hands-on" team environment;
• Oversees the preparation, evaluation and accuracy of budgets and other financial operating reports;
• Responsible for the preparation and accuracy of reports that summarize and forecast the financial position in regards to income and expenses and budget versus actual performance;
• Monitor and report actual results vs. key business performance indicators. Provide management with continuous improvement plans to sustain and drive improvements throughout the business;
• Analyze financial reports for variances from forecasted, budgeted, and benchmarked performance and provide recommendations to management team;
• Review operating expenses and provide recommendation to management on ideas for cost reductions and lead a monthly SG&A review process;
• Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager/Region Controller.

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in the engineering, construction, preferably on one or more heavy civil projects up to $50m in size.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to collect and assemble data for the development of financial reports.
• Ability to analyze complex information and formulate decisions.
• Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively with operations;
• Strong PC skills and software proficiency;
• Strong managerial/leadership skills;
• Budgeting and financial analysis skills.
