Job summary

Bank Street College of Education is seeking Literacy Instructors for 5th–8th grade after-school programs at 610 W 112th Street, New York, NY 10025. Classes run in-person Tuesday evenings, with the possibility of remote sessions via Zoom if needed.

Instructors will deliver project-based literacy curricula and final student projects for an end-of-year celebration. We require experience teaching literacy, strong communication skills, and willingness to adapt plans.

Qualifications

  • NYS Teacher Certification or professional proficiency preferred.
  • Experience engaging middle school students in literacy and writing.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum for in-person and online formats.

Responsibilities

  • Create, adapt and implement reading and writing curriculum for groups of 10 online or up to 25 in person for 5th–8th grade.
  • Engage students and modify curriculum as needed with coordinator support.
  • Maintain cameras on during remote classes and ensure active participation.
  • Manage in-person and remote classrooms using positive behavior strategies.
  • Meet regularly with the Middle School Coordinator for supervision and debriefing.
  • Prepare end-of-year presentation with students and submit lesson plans in advance.
