Job summary

Studio AR&D Architects in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Project Architect with leadership and technical expertise to lead projects from concept through construction. The ideal candidate has 8–15+ years of experience in high-end residential or design-focused work and can communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.

This role oversees design development, construction documents, and QA/QC, mentors junior staff, and maintains office standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Architecture.
• Architectural license required.
• 8-15+ years of professional experience, preferably high-end residential or design-focused projects.
• Extensive experience in technical design, design development, detailing, and construction documentation.
• Strong technical skills with deep understanding of building systems and detailing.
• Strong mentoring skills to support junior staff.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SketchUp, Rhino).
• Experience guiding production teams through timelines and deliverables.
• Significant experience in high-end single-family residential projects.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
• Experience with clients, consultants, and managing project communication.
• Ability to work closely with firm principal and production team from schematic design through construction administration.
• Attention to detail and strong time-management abilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Passion for modern and contemporary architecture.
• Reliable transportation for site visits and meetings.
• Active participation in firm-wide planning and standards development.
• Provide 3 professional references.

Responsibilities

• Project Architect shall have a minimum of 2 years experience in this role/title; preferably 3–5 years with similar projects.
• Oversee and lead the technical development of design and construction documents from concept through construction administration.
• Collaborate with contractors and material suppliers to achieve constructability.
• Collaborate with Job Captains, design staff, and consultants to ensure coordinated, high-quality delivery.
• Provide mentorship, redlining, and technical guidance to junior team members.
• Regular client and consultant code and zoning analyses to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate consultant work and integrate engineering systems into drawings.
• Oversee document technical quality, accuracy, and consistency with office standards.
• Engage in studio activities, project reviews, and firm culture initiatives.
• Coordinate and participate in client and consultant meetings.
• Protect design intent while ensuring code compliance and technical delivery of construction details.
• Participate in and lead project team meetings on-site across CA with thorough follow-up.
