Job summary

McMillan Pazdan Smith in Charleston seeks a creative Project Architect to join our team. You will guide complex design projects, supervise production and coordinate with clients and contractors, and ensure documentation meets codes and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Registered as a licensed architect.

  • Ability to estimate project needs and translate them into budget hours/costs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide limited, high level, production supervision for complex features and coordination.
  • Assist Project Manager with managing multiple small to large-scale projects.
  • Supervise preparation and accuracy of contract documents.
  • Incorporate codes, construction techniques, and sequences in various projects.
  • Supervise site observations and report construction progress.
  • Handle questions during construction and maintain cost control.
  • Communicate with clients, officials, and contractors and prepare correspondence.
  • Write feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
  • Review building codes and prepare applications.
  • Lead major design decisions and detailing of materials.
  • Document project progression and follow approvals and construction actions.
  • Exercise professional judgment on contractual liability.
  • Make public presentations.

We are seeking a creative, innovative and talented Project Architect to join our Charleston Team!

  • Provide limited, high level, production supervision as necessary for work involving a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Assist Project Manager with all aspects of managing multiple small to large-scale projects.
  • Supervise the preparation and check the accuracy of contract documents.
  • Incorporate applicable codes, construction techniques, and sequences in various projects including all aspects of cross disciplines.
  • Supervise and/or perform site observations, such as recording and reporting of existing conditions and construction progress.
  • Handle problems and questions as they occur during construction. Maintain responsibility for project cost control.
  • Responsible for external communications such as making telephone calls and preparing correspondence to clients, officials, and contractors as required by various projects.
  • Write reports such as feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
  • Supervise and perform building code reviews and prepare applications.
  • Responsible for major design decisions, involving spatial, aesthetic elements, and detailing of materials.
  • Document the progression of a routine project through correspondence, memos, etc. Follow routine projects through approvals and construction. Initiate contact with client and building officials.
  • Exercise professional judgment in areas of contractual liability.
  • Make public presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent
  • Registered as a licensed architect
  • 8-12 years of experience as an architect
  • Experience leading a project team
  • Knowledge of estimating project needs and capable of translating them into budget hours/costs
  • Ability to monitor the budget of a task or series of tasks and make necessary adjustments to keep on budget
  • Capable of providing leadership to a team that is performing a sequence of tasks
  • Ability to instill motivation in the team to meet projected milestones and capable of adjusting the procedures to keep the progress on target
  • Proficiency with Revit, Enscape, and Bluebeam
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative suite and Newforma software
  • Excellent grasp of building technology fundamentals
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, operations, processes, and trends
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to effectively and confidently prioritize and execute tasks with many competing priorities
  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

The Following Skills would be an Added Bonus:

  • Master of Architecture
  • Experience with Newforma Project Analyzer
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • Additional relevant certifications indicating additional expertise such as for construction administration, interior design, LEED/Green Globes sustainability
