Role at a Glance

NBBJ Seattle is looking for an experienced, technically grounded Interiors Project Architect to strengthen and grow our Seattle Interiors practice, with a focus on key corporate workplace accounts, repeat-client relationships, and projects ranging from strategic tenant improvements to complex corporate campuses.

Why This Role Is Important

The Interiors Project Architect performs architectural design and development work for projects involving construction of the interiors of new buildings and the alteration of existing buildings and facilities. This role is a critical bridge between design vision and built execution. The successful candidate will bring technical leadership, Revit/BIM fluency, code-aware detailing, consultant coordination, and construction administration judgment that enable design teams to deliver highly coordinated, high-quality interiors for sophisticated corporate clients.

Strategic Opportunity

This is not intended as a production-only role. We are seeking a project architect who can become a trusted technical partner to designers, project managers, consultants, contractors, and client stakeholders. The role will help improve delivery consistency, support long-term account growth, mentor developing staff, and protect design intent from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise in executing corporate interiors and workplace projects to team members, clients, consultants, and contractors from early design through construction administration.
  • Work with clients to identify objectives, formulate options, and communicate technical implications clearly so client stakeholders can make informed decisions.
  • Establish key work priorities for development of design, documentation, scheduling and budgeting, in partnership with project managers and design leaders.
  • Interpret design concepts by collaborating with project team and translating them into workable construction systems that maintain design intent, technical quality, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Responsible for the development of contract documents for construction of new buildings and the alteration of existing buildings and facilities, including coordinated drawings, interior architectural details, specifications input, and quality-control review.
  • Evaluate alternatives to develop solutions while maintaining technical quality, code compliance and design control.
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, specialty consultants, vendors, and internal disciplines to ensure an integrated approach and coordinate project requirements.
  • Prepare designs, working drawings, specifications and coordinate cost estimates for projects.
  • Maintain records to document phases of project, including decisions, meeting outcomes, code assumptions, consultant coordination items, and construction-phase issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, lighting designers, and all project disciplines.
  • Lead the work of other team members, providing mentorship and guidance on documentation standards, Revit workflows, detailing, coordination, and construction administration practices.
  • Participate in construction administration, including review of RFIs and submittals, site observations, punch walks, contractor coordination, and resolution of field issues while protecting design intent.
  • Support repeat corporate account work by bringing responsiveness, technical credibility, and delivery reliability to client and consultant interactions.
  • May participate in marketing efforts, including presentations and technical/project delivery content for strategic pursuits.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred)
  • Minimum 8–12+ years of experience in interiors or the architectural field and well versed in corporate workplace, tenant improvement, headquarters, campus, or complex interiors projects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related design discipline.
  • Architectural licensure preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure will be considered. LEED, WELL, or comparable sustainability/wellness accreditation a plus.
  • Advanced Revit/BIM capability required; experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Strong understanding of interior architectural documentation, detailing, accessibility, egress, life-safety, finish coordination, and construction-phase delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate consultants and internal disciplines on complex, schedule-driven projects.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail with the ability to explain technical issues to designers, project managers, contractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with integrity, trust and commitment; setting an example for others.
  • Ability to travel if the project requires.
Measures of Success
  • High-quality, coordinated document sets with fewer late-stage coordination gaps.
  • Strong partnership with Senior Interior Designers, Project Managers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Clear technical leadership that improves team confidence and client trust.
  • Effective construction administration follow-through and timely issue resolution.
  • Meaningful mentorship that raises the technical capability of the Interiors team.

The annual base pay range for this role is anticipated to be between $115,000 and $135,000. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
