Job description

Vail and Aspen Colorado | Full-Time

159 Architecture & Design is seeking an experienced Project Architect / Architectural Designer with a minimum of five years of professional architectural experience to join our studio.

159 Architecture & Design is a design-focused architecture firm specializing in high-end custom residential architecture, renovations, and mountain homes. Our projects emphasize thoughtful design, strong relationships with clients and builders, and a high level of architectural detailing and execution.

We are looking for someone who can contribute immediately to our projects and take ownership of their work from design through construction.

The Position

The successful candidate will work directly with firm principals, clients, consultants, interior designers, and contractors throughout all phases of the architectural process. This position requires a balance of design ability, technical knowledge, Revit proficiency, organization, and attention to detail.

Candidates should be comfortable working both collaboratively and independently and should have the experience necessary to move a project forward with limited day-to-day supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Develop projects from conceptual and schematic design through construction documents and construction administration.
  • Produce thoughtful architectural floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and presentation materials.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, well-organized Revit models and drawing sets.
  • Prepare coordinated architectural construction documents.
  • Coordinate architectural work with structural, civil, MEP, landscape, interior design, and other project consultants.
  • Research and interpret applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and HOA/design review guidelines.
  • Participate in client presentations and design meetings.
  • Coordinate with general contractors throughout preconstruction and construction.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other construction-related documentation.
  • Participate in construction-site meetings and observations.
  • Manage project responsibilities, schedules, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Maintain a high standard of architectural design, documentation, and technical accuracy.
Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of professional architectural experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or a related architectural discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing architectural construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction, detailing, and building systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and coordinate consultant drawings.
  • Strong graphic, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Ability to take ownership of assignments and work independently.

Preferred

  • Experience with high-end custom residential architecture.
  • Experience with mountain residential construction and complex remodels.
  • Experience coordinating directly with contractors and consultants.
  • Knowledge of Colorado building codes and residential design-review processes.
  • Architectural licensure or active progress toward licensure.
  • Experience working directly with clients through multiple phases of a project.
Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who enjoys architecture as both a creative and technical profession.

The right candidate will be curious, self-motivated, highly organized, and committed to producing excellent work. We value people who take responsibility for their projects, communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and actively work toward solutions.

This is an opportunity to become an important member of a small, collaborative studio where you will have significant exposure to the entire architectural process and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to high-quality residential projects.
