Base pay range

$85,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr

Located in the downtown Chicago area, this is a great opportunity for someone with construction accounting experience to join a reputable and stable general contractor as a Senior Project Accountant. This general contractor has decades of success and repeat business. They've been the driving force behind some of the city's most notable projects and have shaped the Chicago skyline. Not only are they at the forefront of major projects, they are known for their low staff turnover, excellent benefits and family feel despite growing north of $500m in revenue per year. With this contractor you get the best of both worlds- large enough to grow your career internally but while maintaining the close knit feel of a smaller business- you'll have regular contact with the C-suite team and work closely with your accounting colleagues, Project Managers and Project Executives on a regular basis.

This Senior Project Accountant position comes with the opportunity for progression into a management/leadership role.

Description

• Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
• Track project costs, ensuring accurate cost allocation and variance analysis.
• Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules to ensure proper revenue recognition.
• Generate and submit AIA billing, progress billings, and lien waivers (if construction-related).
• Ensure compliance with contract terms, purchase orders, and change orders.
• Handle subcontractor/vendor payments and verify invoices against project budgets.
• Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and leadership to provide financial insights.
• Prepare and analyze project profitability reports, job cost reports, and cash flow statements.
• Support month-end close processes, including reconciliations of project accounts.

Profile

• To be considered for this position, candidates are required to have project accounting experience, working on projects in excess of $5m in value.
