The University at Buffalo is seeking a meticulous Project Accountant to support the financial integrity of university projects. You will reconcile project transactions, generate cost reports, and partner with project managers to ensure data aligns with operational milestones.

Reporting to the Senior Project Accountant, you will perform reconciliations, analyze variances, and contribute to audit-ready documentation while maintaining accurate records and supporting departmental goals.

Qualifications

Associate degree with 2 years of experience in reconciliations and procurement/accounts payable.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 1 year of experience preferred.
Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivots, lookups) and ability to document processes clearly.

Responsibilities

Reconcile project-related financial transactions including accounts payable/receivable, GL entries, and interdepartmental charges.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reconciliations of project accounts for accuracy.
Investigate/discrepancies between budgets, actuals, and systems; maintain audit-ready records.

Position Summary

University Facilities Finance Department is seeking a meticulousand analytical Project Accountant to support the financialintegrity of projects through accurate reporting and robustreconciliation processes. This role ensures that all financialtransactions align with accounting standards, organizationalpolices/procedures, and multiple business reporting systems. Theideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining financialtransparency and supporting project success.

This role reports directly to the Senior Project Accountant. Duties& responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reconcile project related financial transactions, includingaccounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, andinterdepartmental charges.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reconciliations ofproject accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between project budgets,actuals, and various business systems.
Maintain detailed records of reconciliations and adjustmentsfor audit and compliance purposes.
Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial dataaligns with operational progress and milestones.
Monitor project budgets to ensure sufficient funds areavailable for final purchases, payroll, etc.
Prepare and analyze project cost reports, variance analysis,and statements.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree with 2 years or Bachelors degree with 1 yearof experience with account reconciliations, general understandingof procurement and accounts payable processes.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel Skills (use of logical (IF, AND,OR), lookup (VLOOKUP) formulas, applying and customizing filters,creating and modifying pivot tables) is a must.
Demonstrated organization, time management, and problem solvingskills.
Excellent writing skills to clearly articulate to other staffthe problem found and how to correct it.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
