Summary

The Project Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial aspects of construction projects. This position is responsible for tracking project costs, preparing financial reports, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with contract terms. The Project Accountant works closely with project managers, subcontractors, and the finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Project Financial Management: Monitor and track project budgets, costs, and forecasts; prepare and analyze monthly job cost reports and variance analyses; assist in the preparation of project billing and ensure timely invoicing to clients.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Review and process subcontractor and vendor invoices in accordance with contract terms; coordinate lien waivers, insurance certificates, and other compliance documents; track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Payroll & Time Entry Support: Collaborate with HR and field supervisors to ensure accurate time entry for project personnel; reconcile labor costs and allocate payroll expenses to appropriate job codes.
  • Contract & Compliance Oversight: Maintain financial documentation related to contracts, change orders, and purchase orders; ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external regulations.
  • Reporting & Communication: Provide financial updates and reports to project managers and senior leadership; support audits and financial reviews by preparing required documentation; communicate with vendors, clients, and internal teams regarding financial matters.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of job costing, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Required Skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Must have good mathematical and statistical skills needed for evaluation of data, computation, and calculations.
