Job summary

Toole Design is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join the Finance team in Silver Spring, MD. You will manage the financial health of multiple transportation projects, handle invoicing, budgets, and forecasting, and maintain project accounts in our ERP system.

This role requires collaboration with project managers, clients, and subconsultants to ensure accuracy and on-time reporting. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent), 5+ years of

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Five or more years of project accounting experience.
• Basic understanding of GAAP and ability to analyze project financial information.
• Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar job cost software.
• Experience reading and reviewing contracts.
• Experience working with Departments of Transportation (DOTs); Caltrans experience is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative relationship building.

Responsibilities

• Prepare invoices, monitor budgets, forecast potential overruns.
• Create and maintain project accounts in ERP system using established procedures.
• Manage unbilled work, support project setup and closeout, assist project managers with billing issues and collections.
• Reconcile receipts and budgets, and communicate with project managers, clients, and subconsultants.
• Compile information for internal and external auditors and contribute to staff trainings.

What You'll Do

You help manage the financial health of multiple projects from setup through closeout. What You Bring:

• A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a degree
• Five or more years of project accounting experience
• A basic understanding of GAAP and experience analyzing project financial information
• Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint or other job cost accounting software
• Experience reading and reviewing contracts
• Experience working with Departments of Transportation (DOTs); California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) experience is a plus
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet weekly and monthly deadlines
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to building relationships

We are targeting a salary range of $74,000 to $84,000 for this position.
