Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Project Accountant to coordinate all phases of construction job costing, including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings. You will partner with the Project Manager to manage risk and ensure timely, accurate accounting throughout the project life cycle.

The role covers invoicing, cost analysis, AP and subcontract payable processing, vendor compliance, and reporting on project profitability using COINs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3–5 years of project accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and control environment.

Job description

Position Summary

The Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project as well as several smaller less complex projects. This position also assures vendor compliance in order to manage project risk. This role is assigned to a large construction project, working closely with the Project Manager to assure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

Position Details
  • Compiles, prepares and analyzes monthly project billings per contract requirements.
  • Performs financial analysis and reconciliation of project costs versus project budget.
  • Processes project accounts payable and subcontracts payable.
  • Manages vendor compliance, insurance, lien waivers, retention and W-9s. Produces and analyzes job performance and profitability through jobs cost tracking reports.
  • Assists in preparation of status reports and maintains accurate project statuses and budget information in COINs.
  • Identifies and resolves basic and more complex project related accounting issues and resolves in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of project accounting experience preferred
