Job summary

CSS Metal Shaped Solutions in Farmington, CT seeks a Journeyman Progressive Die Tooling Technician to keep power press operations running, perform pre-run checks, in-press service, and first-piece inspection.

You will fabricate and repair tools, fixtures, and gauges, document tool histories, and work with supervisors to introduce new tools. A strong background in tooling, GD&T, and ISO quality systems is required.

Qualifications

• Journeyman certificate or 5 years equivalent experience.
• Background in tooling fabrication, troubleshooting, repair and set-up.
• Fluent with prints and GD&T for manufacturing.
• Safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes and similar equipment.
• Progressive stamping experience required.
• Working knowledge of ISO quality systems and on-floor SPC usage.
• Lean knowledge (Kaizen, Kanban, SMED, 5S) and DFMA awareness.
• Experience with production standards, cost of quality, and manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Keep production tools running: pre-run checks, in-press service, first-piece quality.
• Build and repair: fabricate tools, components, fixtures, and gauges per direction.
• Coach and document: assist apprentices; record Tool History and setup details.
• Escalate smartly: alert Supervisor on machine and tool maintenance needs.
• Launch well: partner with Senior Tool & Diemaker to introduce new tools into production.
• Standardize: support common component choices and assist in tooling project development.
• Troubleshoot: help set-up associates resolve set-up and running issues.
• Collaborate: support managers on metal stamping and fourslide projects.
• Control the paperwork: notify about job traveler updates for operation changes/additions.
