Job description

Full‑time RN position on day shift in the Progressive Care Unit at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide patient‑centered care in a dynamic Acute Care / Progressive Care Unit setting.
  • Maintain a 1:4 nurse‑to‑patient ratio on a 28‑bed unit, ensuring high quality care.
  • Offer complex support for patients including post‑cardiac surgery, Cath Lab procedures, alcohol withdrawal, heart and respiratory failure, dysrhythmias and other high‑acuity conditions.
  • Manage non‑titrable drips to maintain or improve patients’ hemodynamic status.
  • Identify decompensating conditions and treat promptly and efficiently.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers patient‑centered care through the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—while coordinating with physicians, nurses, and other health professionals to achieve optimal outcomes.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate and deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care in line with organizational policies and protocols.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, document findings accurately, and report changes to the care team.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitor side effects, and record administration per standards of practice.
  • Assist physicians during procedures within scope of competency.
  • Collaborate to develop and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, including CPR and code team activities.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights and needs, ensuring their voices are included in care planning.
  • Provide education to patients and families on conditions, treatment plans, and post‑discharge care.
  • Implement infection control protocols to prevent healthcare‑associated infections.
  • Monitor and operate medical equipment such as IV pumps, monitors, and ventilators.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
  • Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure standards and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Demonstrate responsible decision‑making in planning, delegating, and providing care.
  • Document patient care and education thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
  • Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competency and current nursing standards.
  • Participate in performance‑improvement initiatives, including data collection and process development.
Critical Care RN
  • Administer medications and other treatments as prescribed, including intravenous therapies.
  • Manage complex medical equipment, including ventilators and monitoring devices.
  • Perform procedures such as inserting central lines, managing tracheostomies, and providing advanced cardiac life support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications

0–2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices.
  • Ability to conduct thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
  • Proficiency in administering medications and monitoring for side effects.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN – Registered Nurse – State (or compact) licensure required.
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support required.
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
  • Additional certifications may be required per facility or unit guidelines.
