Job summary

Christian Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a compassionate patient care team member to support licensed nurses on a Progressive Care Unit. The role focuses on ADLs assistance, vital signs, and ensuring patient safety in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Preferred candidates have CNA or similar experience; a High School diploma is required, CNA certification preferred. 7:00am–7:30pm shifts, with every-other-weekend rotation and comprehensive benefits available.

Qualifications

• Preferred experience as CNA, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician.
• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Licenses & Certifications: Certified Nurse Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.

Northwest HealthCare six miles west of Christian, offers 24- hour emergency care, the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of outpatient diagnostic and imaging services.

Progressive Care Unit is a 40 bed unit dedicated primarily to the cardiac and pulmonary patient populations. Unit has the ability to provide cardiac monitoring for all patients on the floor. The unit is located on the 7th floor and has a ten-bed Respiratory Care Unit for individuals with choric lung illnesses. Progressive Care Unit is staffed by RN’s, PCAs and clerical associates.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.
