Job summary

Orange County Arts Commission seeks an experienced arts administrator to manage cultural programs and events, including youth and summer activities, grant-funded projects, and special initiatives. The role reports to the Arts Commission Director and involves planning, coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

The position requires a bachelor's degree with three years in arts administration or nonprofit management and at least one year of supervision, with eligibility for evening/weekend duties

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves the primary responsibility for the management of the arts and cultural programs and events through the Orange County Arts Commission including, but not limited to, youth/summer programs, grant-funded programs and special projects.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Arts Commission Director, with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions regarding stakeholder needs and requests. Supervision of assigned volunteers is the responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years of work experience in arts administration, nonprofit management, arts education, or arts program planning AND one (1) year of experience in the direct supervision of others; OR

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A higher degree does not substitute for experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver License issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Ability to work one evening per week, and one weekend day per month.
