Responsibilities
- The Employee shall provide support to NSWC PC for the Machine Shop. The Programming Machinist VI shall perform machine shop operations such as sawing, turning, milling, grinding, and heat treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials.
- The Programming Machinist VI shall manufacture parts from castings, forgings, and other raw stocks made of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials to specifications of drawings per the customer's work order, including compliance with military standards.
- Operate various types of conventional and CNC machine tools and their attachments to perform machining operations.
- Provide training in Mastercam or available programming software as required to demonstrate proficiency.
- Interpret drawings and specifications such as sketches or models to fabricate products.
- Apply knowledge of machining processes in performing operations like boring, drilling, planning, milling, and turning on various machine tools.
- Plan work sequences, lay out reference points, and set up the work in the machine.
- Program the cutter path using Mastercam or similar software, and determine feeds and speeds.
- Perform precision handwork to fit, finish, and assemble machined parts using precision measuring devices.
- Provide recommendations for modernized technologies or troubleshooting machining issues.
- Interface and communicate with customers regarding drawings, services, and instructions.
- Produce replacement and new parts for repairs, interpreting instructions, planning, and using various tools and equipment.
- Construct and repair jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or molds, understanding materials and tolerances.
- Work involves planning, laying out work, shop computations, and operating machine tools.
- Use tools and instruments to work to close tolerances, heat-treat parts, and assemble components.
- Must have CNC Programmer experience, writing and editing G-code, and work closely with engineers and designers.
- Support machine shop operations including CNC programming and simulation.
- Comply with shop policies on cleanliness and safety.
- Review blueprints and materials for discrepancies.
- Have knowledge of shop math, metals, blueprint reading, and GD&T standards.
Qualifications
- CNC Programming skills and setup of fixtures required.
- High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience.
- Proficiency in CNC and CAM software like Feature CAM, Master CAM, CAD/CAM.
- Basic knowledge of conventional machining.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Experience with HAAS, Milltronics, and other specified machine tools.
Physical Demands:
- Lifting up to 75 pounds required.
- Use of eye, hearing, and foot protection necessary.
- Constant visual awareness due to moving parts.
- Navy Crane and Forklift certifications required.
- Participation in all training as assigned.
