Job summary

Dept of Corrections – Central Administration seeks an hourly Program Support Tech to aid procurement, finance, and reporting for the Sex Offender Program and Monitoring Unit. You will handle purchase orders, invoices, and data entry in the state eVA system while maintaining records.

Strong MS Office skills, data management ability, and clear written/verbal communication are essential. Role is hourly, with no benefits, and limited to 1500 hours per year.

Job Duties

Enhances public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Department of Corrections staff and inmates, by meeting re-entry objectives and by providing effective security, programming, custody, and control of adult inmates in a major correctional facility.


This position will provide administrative and programmatic support to the Sex Offender Program and Monitoring Unit in support of the unit and agency mission.


This position manages procurement and financial processes, including creating purchase orders and processing invoices and receipts in the state’s Electronic Virginia (eVA) system. Additionally, duties include generating reports and updating and maintaining records in automated databases. This person will work closely with the Chief of the Sex Offender Programs and Monitoring Unit.


This is an hourly position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The hourly employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All hourly employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This hourly position offers no state benefits.


Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel to accomplish office support requirements. Demonstrated skill in inputting data into an automated database other than Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, work independently, and complete tasks in a timely manner. Candidates should also possess strong problem-solving skills.


Additional Considerations

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret legal documents.


Previous experience in criminal justice or closely related field.


Experience utilizing automated criminal‑justice or records‑management systems.


Applicant must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Knowledge/Experience with Electronic Virginia (eVA). If not trained, it is expected that once hired this person will work to immediately complete any required trainings.
