Job description

This position is located at the Southern Pueblos Agency, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is under the direct supervision of the Fire Management Officer. It is responsible for providing a range of program support services in various areas of the fire program.

This announcement will be used to fill vacancies utilizing the Direct-Hire Authority (5CFR 337.201). Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy.

Duties
  1. Assists the Agency Forester, Fire Management Officer, and the Office of the Superintendent in performing administrative tasks supporting the administrative functions.
  2. Provides detailed cost analyses and controls all personnel, vehicles, procurements, contracts, and other administrative costs of the program.
  3. Serves as the program support assistant, developing protocols and methods to direct calls and mail inquiries to the proper program staff.
  4. Processes, corrects, tracks, records, and maintains financial documentation and information for the program.
  5. Maintains work and travel planning calendars and schedules for program staff, based on their duties and responsibilities.
  6. Acts as Point of Contact (POC) for the Casual Pay System, responding to payroll directives and collecting feedback.
  7. May serve as a member of an administrative payment team for large fire expenditure needs.
  8. Provides secretarial/clerical services for the Forestry and Fire programs.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Preference given to qualified Indian candidates per the Indian Preference Act of 1934. Form BIA -4432 must be submitted if claiming Indian Preference.
  • Federal payments must be made by Direct Deposit.
  • Potential requirement to complete a probationary/trial period.
  • A background security investigation is required for all new hires, with successful completion and favorable adjudication necessary for appointment.
  • Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must register under the Military Selective Service Act to be eligible for appointment.
Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements: (Based on OPM Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-0303).

GS-7:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 in the federal service, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, travel voucher review, financial monitoring, and other listed activities.

GS-6:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5, including activities like reception, calendar management, Microsoft Office proficiency, travel arrangements, and budget assistance.

Education:

Not applicable for these grade levels.

Proficiency Requirement:

Typing speed of 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
