Job summary

SER Metro-Detroit is seeking a Youth Services Program Support at Samaritan Center, Detroit, MI to coordinate recruitment, intake, eligibility verification, enrollment and onboarding for multiple Youth Services programs.

The role maintains participant records in MiSTAR and Launchpad, supports orientation and work-readiness activities, and ensures timely communication with participants, families and school partners to promote engagement from inquiry through enrollment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • 1–2 years in a customer service environment.
  • Computer skills to use word processing and spreadsheet software.

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:The Youth Services Program Support serves as the primary point of contact for prospective participants and students, coordinating recruitment, intake, eligibility verification, enrollment, and onboarding activities across multiple Youth Services programs and the organization's charter school. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate participant records and data within MiSTAR, Launchpad, and other required databases; supporting orientation and work-readiness activities; and ensuring timely, professional communication with participants, families, community partners, and school stakeholders. The Youth Services Program Support plays a critical role in delivering a positive participant experience, supporting program compliance, and promoting successful engagement from initial inquiry through enrollment and participation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to ensure the efficient delivery of Youth Services programs and activities.
  • Coordinate participant intake, eligibility determination, orientation, enrollment, certification, and other program activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with parents, guardians, and families by conducting regular outreach, facilitating orientations, providing ongoing updates, addressing concerns, and connecting families to available resources that support participant success.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain participant files, reports, correspondence, and program documentation while ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
  • Collect, enter, verify, and monitor participant and program data to support reporting, compliance, and data-informed decision making.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating workshops, orientations, youth development activities and special events.
  • Coordinate participant referrals and supportive services while collaborating with internal staff and community partners to remove barriers to success.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and participant-centered environment.
  • Support compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and program procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve administrative processes, participant services, and operational efficiency.
  • Notifies immediately appropriate personnel and agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and departmental initiatives.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Some college experience preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience in a customer service environment.
  • Computer skills necessary to utilize word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, participants and partner agencies.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mental ability to handle pressures related to performing multiple tasks requiring concentration and attention to detail and dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.
  • Physical ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks as well as possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tool with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Chauffeur Driver’s license to operate a 15-passenger van for occasional, required participant transportation and agency-related activities.
  • Must complete FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check must be received, as well as successful Unprofessional Conduct Check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - This job operates in a normal school environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routine uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
