Job summary

Crosslines Community Outreach is seeking a part-time Shelter Monitor to support the Safe to Sleep program. You will help ensure shelter processes run smoothly, maintain a safe, welcoming environment for guests, and assist with guest services and policy enforcement.

Responsibilities include nightly intake, inventory management, data entry, and daily reports to staff. Collaborative work with volunteers and Case Manager is essential to uphold program standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid Driver’s License and a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with homeless populations preferred; must be able to work with high-risk individuals.
• Strong judgment, crisis management, and problem-solving skills are required.
• Must be dependable, able to multitask, prioritize, and work independently or as part of a team.
• Compassion and respectful collaboration with guests, volunteers, and coworkers are essential.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to document observations objectively.
• Basic computer proficiency is required: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and time tracking software.
• Position is subject to random drug screenings.

Job Summary

Shelter Monitors play an important role in advancing the mission and purposes of Crosslines Community Outreach (CCO), through the Safe to Sleep program, by ensuring that shelter processes and procedures are performed with excellence and that shelter guests receive accommodations in a safe, welcoming, and structured environment that aims to guide them toward self-sufficiency and permanent housing.

Ensure shelter processes and procedures are completed with excellence each night so that services continue to function as planned.

Staff Communication

Provide timely, complete information to program staff about guest and shelter needs or issues.

Guest Services

Ensure guests receive accommodation in a safe, welcoming environment, and have access to supplies and support available to them.

Essential Functions

Shelter Operations

Assist in the management of daily shelter operations. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Complete nightly guest intake and familiarize guests with shelter policies.
• Ensure that all guests comply with policies and complete required chores.
• Conduct accurate weekly inventory of supplies and food and submit to supervisor.
• Accurate and timely data entry for nightly attendance.

Staff Communication

Provide daily reports to program staff about guest and shelter needs or issues and actively engage in weekly team meetings. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Complete a daily report of activities, including guest and shelter needs or issues and any guests’ non-compliance of policies, and submit them to program staff each morning.
• Relay guest questions/requests to Case Manager for follow-up.

Guest Services

Contribute to a safe, welcoming environment for guests to receive accommodation. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Monitor and maintain a safe environment at all times.
• Provide access to hygiene supplies.

Provide guidance and consistency to volunteers regarding policies/rules, procedures, etc. Reaffirm the training of new volunteers as they become familiar with their responsibilities.

Work Hours

Work Hours will be approximately 7 pm to 7:30 am, though some split shifts may be necessary. Holiday hours are required (special holiday pay rates will apply).
