Job description

Position Overview

The Program Specialist will split their time evenly between the TRIO Scholars Program and the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program at UC Riverside. The role involves advising and supporting students to improve retention, graduation rates, and to prepare for doctoral studies and career preparation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advising to a caseload of participants, including course planning, navigating campus resources, graduate school exploration, and career preparation.
  • Support program operations with data entry and participation monitoring.
  • Assist with recruitment of program participants for the McNair Scholars Program.
  • Collect and analyze data for annual performance reports for the McNair Scholars Program.
  • Coordinate programming and student activities for the McNair Scholars Program.
Salary and Employment Conditions

The full salary range is $22.65–$37.60 per hour, with an expected pay scale up to $24.00 per hour. This position is grant‑funded and subject to ongoing grant availability. Applicants must have current work authorization; the University does not sponsor employment visas. Employees must comply with all applicable University policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 0–1 year of related experience.
  • Experience working directly with TRIO or a similar outreach/support program.
  • Multicultural competencies and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
  • Basic knowledge of UC and the department/school/college.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns and maintain confidentiality.
  • Travel required for business‑related conferences, meetings, and events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of challenges faced by first‑generation, low‑income, and students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of academic records used for advising.
  • Skills in analyzing information and synthesizing large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
