Job summary

Schmidt Sciences in New York is seeking a Program Scientist to lead the Schmidt Science Polymaths program, shaping strategy, selection, and alumni engagement. You will oversee award cycles, engage with awardees and institutions, and coordinate with external reviewers while advancing interdisciplinary research careers.

This hands-on leadership role requires reading across disciplines, rigorous evaluation, and building partnerships across academia and industry.

Qualifications

• PhD in science, mathematics, engineering, or a closely related field.
• 8+ years of experience following the PhD in academia, government, industry, philanthropy, or research organizations.
• Ability to evaluate proposals, reports, and other opportunities across disciplines.
• Experience building relationships with mid-career and senior academics, administrators, and research institutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Polymaths program strategy and operations.
• Manage the program's selection cycle, award administration, awardee engagement, and convenings.
• Oversee annual reports, mid-cycle and end-of-award reviews, and synthesize recommendations.
• Identify and recruit external reviewers and advisors for reviews and program evaluation.
• Build continuing relationships with alumni and home institutions.
• Represent Schmidt Sciences in conferences and events related to interdisciplinary research.
