Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Maintenance Pipe Planner/Scheduler to plan, schedule, and coordinate piping maintenance activities at NASA Langley Research Center. The role develops detailed work packages, coordinates labor and materials, and ensures safe, reliable operation. You will work closely with facilities and maintenance supervisors to minimize downtime while boosting equipment reliability.

U.S. Citizenship is required, with six years of pipe/pipe fitting maintenance experience.

Qualifications

  • Six years of related maintenance experience in pipe/pipe fitting.
  • Must communicate well verbally and in writing with clear visual aids.
  • Ability to use computing technology for problem analysis and solution.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown piping maintenance activities.
  • Develop detailed work packages with scope, labor, tools, materials, and estimated hours.
  • Review work requests and prioritize by safety, impact, and equipment criticality.
  • Coordinate with facilities to schedule outages and maintenance windows.
  • Ensure materials and parts are available before work begins.
  • Prepare weekly and long-range maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor schedule compliance and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Maintain CMMS records (Maximo).
  • Support turnaround and shutdown planning activities.
  • Participate in safety observation and pre-job planning.
  • Coordinate with procurement for piping materials.

The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Department to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA’s Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Work Control Manager.

All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism. All safety policies and procedures must be followed.

Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Pipe Planner/Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating piping maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation on LaRC. This role develops detailed work packages, coordinates labor and materials, schedules maintenance work, and works closely with facilities and maintenance supervisors to minimize downtime while maximizing equipment reliability.

  • Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown piping system maintenance activities.
  • Develop detailed work packages including job scope, procedures, labor requirements, tools, materials, and estimated work hours.
  • Review maintenance work requests and prioritize jobs based on safety, operational impact, and equipment criticality.
  • Coordinate with the facilities to schedule equipment outages and maintenance windows.
  • Ensure materials, replacement parts, and asset availability are available before scheduled work begins.
  • Prepare weekly and long-range maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor schedule compliance and adjust priorities as required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (Maximo).
  • Support center turnaround and shutdown planning activities.
  • Participate in the safety observation program (SOR), safety meetings, and pre-job planning.
  • Coordinate with procurement for purchasing piping system materials and specialty components.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship required. Six (6) years of related experience in maintenance field associated with pipe/pipe fitting. Additional relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for a portion of the experience. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written with effective use of visual aids. Should be able to use computing technology for problem analysis and solution.

Essential Functions:
Work Environment

Office environment. (75%) Test facilities and active work site environment - loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (25%) Travel between office and various facilities is required (<5%).

Physical Requirements

Limited time spent on active work sites. Must be physically capable of walking and climbing over rough terrain and working at elevated heights and confined spaces. Work sites are commonly areas of high noise levels due to facility operations. (25%) Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift to 35 lbs.

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, copier fax etc. Software - Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project. Safety and Personal Protective Equipment. Knowledge of IBM Maximo is beneficial.

Attendance

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (5% - 20%)

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required for this specific position.

  • The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client organization.
  • Must be able to balance scope, schedule, and budget to ensure program success.
  • Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
Compensation Details:

$78,000.00
