The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division, Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Bureau in Helena.

Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States and kills over 1,600 Montanans per year. The Tobacco Cessation Program Officer will assure delivery of evidence-based cessation services statewide. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and monitoring the contract with the Quit Now Montana provider, including budget development and management, data interpretation and dissemination, and quality improvement activities;
  • Developing educational materials and establishing program procedures to increase referrals to cessation services and decrease overall tobacco use;
  • Engaging providers in the integration of tobacco treatment in behavioral health and health care settings;
  • Planning and coordinating conferences, trainings, and presentations to provide education and outreach on tobacco cessation and program services.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of public health education including disease prevention and control.
  • Skill in researching and developing health training materials and program content.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health science, health education, behavioral or social science, or a related degree.
  • Two years of job-related experience in health programming or health education.
  • Experience in and knowledge of health care systems preferred.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026.

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.
