OVERVIEW:
- We are an Executive Retained Search firm based in Bloomfield Hills, MI recruiting executive talent for a non-profit search in the metro Detroit area.
- Our Client is a Detroit based private foundation that partners with organizations committed to creating opportunities for the underserved.
- These partners include hospitals, community centers, and other nonprofits, all associated with either Health, Youth & Family or Animal Welfare.
- The Program Officer will develop, manage, and evaluate a portfolio of grants and initiatives through the foundation's grantmaking program.
- This professional will guide nonprofit organizations through the grant application process, from concept development through proposal submission and evaluation of results.
- Reports directly to the President/CEO and serves as a member of the Leadership Team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Review concept papers and proposals in the Foundation’s focus areas of Health, Youth and Family, and Animal Welfare.
- Provide feedback to applicants and engaging with outside experts to evaluate proposals.
- Conduct site visits with current and potential grantees.
- Prepare recommendations and materials for the board of directors.
- Complete administrative and reporting functions in the grants management system (Blackbaud).
- Help shape the strategic direction of the Foundations grantmaking program, and ensure activities are designed to support that direction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.
- 5-7 years of relevant and applicable experience required.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and grants management software (Blackbaud preferred).
- Experience in and passion for work that supports health, youth & families and animal welfare.
- Strong professional network including organizations and subject matter experts.
- Excellent analytical skills that can be applied successfully to reviewing, conducting due diligence, and making recommendations on grant proposals.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people at various career levels and backgrounds.
- Able to maintain a knowledge base and stay on top of field developments.
ADDED SKILLS & ABILITIES::
- Position is Semi-Remote; therefore, must be in the Detroit, MI office three days (T,W, & Th) per week.
- Requires travel including periodic overnight stays to attend conferences, functions associated with foundation topics and education, and other related events. Air travel may be required.
