Job description

OVERVIEW:

  • We are an Executive Retained Search firm based in Bloomfield Hills, MI recruiting executive talent for a non-profit search in the metro Detroit area.
  • Our Client is a Detroit based private foundation that partners with organizations committed to creating opportunities for the underserved.
  • These partners include hospitals, community centers, and other nonprofits, all associated with either Health, Youth & Family or Animal Welfare.
  • The Program Officer will develop, manage, and evaluate a portfolio of grants and initiatives through the foundation's grantmaking program.
  • This professional will guide nonprofit organizations through the grant application process, from concept development through proposal submission and evaluation of results.
  • Reports directly to the President/CEO and serves as a member of the Leadership Team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Review concept papers and proposals in the Foundation’s focus areas of Health, Youth and Family, and Animal Welfare.
  • Provide feedback to applicants and engaging with outside experts to evaluate proposals.
  • Conduct site visits with current and potential grantees.
  • Prepare recommendations and materials for the board of directors.
  • Complete administrative and reporting functions in the grants management system (Blackbaud).
  • Help shape the strategic direction of the Foundations grantmaking program, and ensure activities are designed to support that direction.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant and applicable experience required.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and grants management software (Blackbaud preferred).
  • Experience in and passion for work that supports health, youth & families and animal welfare.
  • Strong professional network including organizations and subject matter experts.
  • Excellent analytical skills that can be applied successfully to reviewing, conducting due diligence, and making recommendations on grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people at various career levels and backgrounds.
  • Able to maintain a knowledge base and stay on top of field developments.

ADDED SKILLS & ABILITIES::

  • Position is Semi-Remote; therefore, must be in the Detroit, MI office three days (T,W, & Th) per week.
  • Requires travel including periodic overnight stays to attend conferences, functions associated with foundation topics and education, and other related events. Air travel may be required.
