Job Description

The Social Work Office of Research and Public Service is a leader in applied social science research at the University of Tennessee. The person in this role will help shape and develop the new Tennessee Safety Net Research Consortium which – in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Human Services and other research partners – will develop research projects to promote the transformative nature of Tennessee Social Safety Net on the Tennesseans who need it. This person will direct the Consortium Management Team as well as oversee the daily operations of the Consortium. They will help shape the direction of the Consortium in collaboration with TDHS and UTK Partners as well as represent the Consortium when meeting with stakeholders and recruiting potential members. They will supervise the Project Manager and the Administrative Support Staff. They will be an experienced researcher with significant experience at the intersection of academic research and government policy. Above all, they will have an opportunity to impact the effectiveness of social programs for the Tennesseans who use them.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Consortium
  2. Supervise staff while providing direction and leadership
  3. Oversee grant management, development of reports, and meeting deliverable timetables
  4. Oversee communications and publications
  5. Work with Consortium Partners on research studies
  6. Develop and oversee IRB submissions
  7. Collaborate with Consortium data management team
  8. Ensure study implementation
  9. Oversee the planning and execution of research projects
  10. Oversee the development of research designs, data collection methods, and strategies for data management
  11. Oversee IRB compliance
  12. Oversee presentation research in scientific, educational, or community outreach settings
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Doctoral Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Public Policy or related field required.
  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years supervisory experience in an academic or research setting
    • Established record of scholarly publications and refereed presentations
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of contracts, grants and budget principles
    • Ability to engage would-be partners and develop partnerships with academic, philanthropic and other agencies
    • Knowledge of research design methods to conduct research projects and evaluation studies
    • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously as well as manage and collaborate with a diverse group of partners from multiple agencies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Record of applying for and receiving grant funding
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to perform high level statistical analyses as well as familiarity with analytical tools
    • Project management certifications or training

Work Location: Position is remote but may require travel within the State of Tennessee.

Compensation and Benefits
  • UT market range: MR 13
  • Anticipated hiring range: Midpoint of the range
