Description
Position Summary
The Program Manager will supervise the Rise Up Career Specialist, oversee special programs, manage grant deliverables, and lead the BBBSLI internship program. They will support staff working with mentees, mentors, and partners to advance youth education, career readiness, and life skills. This role ensures program quality, fosters collaboration, and drives growth through data-informed oversight and strong community engagement. Providing leadership and oversight to the staff responsible for delivering these services, The Rise Up Program Manager will also help lead the execution of grant deliverables and agency special programming initiatives to ensure alignment with funding goals and organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities
Rise Up Responsibilities
- Oversee the hiring and training of Career Specialist.
- Supervise the Career Specialist and delegate duties/responsibilities to said staff.
- Conduct monthly audits of match case files.
- Manage program for youth age 14+ to determine a high school and post-secondary plan for their future.
- Plan and facilitate monthly or bi-weekly sessions for in-person meetings with students and mentors.
- Plan, facilitate, and host educational and vocational workshops for mentees on high school proficiency test requirements, college readiness, and career topics.
- Coordinate pre-vocational services; organize and plan career exploration activities and trips.
- Conduct job readiness workshops and training to youth in order to make them more employable.
- Plan and execute various aspects of match activities and other program enhancements for participants of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island Rise Up program.
- Support mentees by connecting participants with external community partners and resources, both through established agency partnerships and through new collaborations.
- Create and manage curriculum development; prepare training materials for match participants.
- Responsible for consistent and ongoing communication with school personnel, college administrators, volunteers, and business professionals to build strong relationships that support program growth.
- Identify and implement growth strategies to achieve long-term vision of impact on youth in our program – including program expansion and scale.
- Liaise with the Board, education leaders, employers, and key external partners to increase scale and impact of the program.
Special Programming Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of special programs and agency-approved initiatives.
- Track program participation, deliverables, and outcomes to ensure alignment with funding intent and organizational goals.
- Coordinate with program staff to ensure timely delivery of services, proper documentation, and consistent follow-through with participants.
- Collaborate with the Development and Finance teams to support fund stewardship, donor communication, and grant reporting related to special programs.
- Develop and maintain program-specific workflows, timelines, and communication protocols to ensure efficient execution and quality assurance.
- Support marketing and storytelling efforts by collecting program highlights, participant stories, and data that demonstrate impact.
Grant Responsibilities
- Oversee the successful implementation and tracking of program activities aimed at granting deliverables, ensuring all outcomes and benchmarks are met on schedule.
- Monitor and evaluate program impact using both qualitative and quantitative metrics to ensure alignment with funder expectations.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of grant-related activities, expenditures, and performance outcomes in accordance with compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with the Development and Finance teams to ensure accurate budget tracking, documentation, and timely submission of reports to funders.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive interim and final grant reports, including data, narratives, and outcome analysis.
- Ensure grant compliance by adhering to all federal, state, and private funder requirements, including audits and site visits.
Internship Responsibilities
- Oversee and recruit for Program Interns.
- Supervise interns, delegate responsibilities, and ensure alignment with program goals.
- Serve as the agency liaison for assigned schools and academic institutions in relation to the agency’s internship department, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring alignment with academic program requirements.
Internal Collaboration & Communications
- Work closely with the Development and Marketing teams to highlight programming stories, promote upcoming events, and support agency-wide initiatives.
- Work with the BBBSLI Development and Program teams on events, recruitment, and marketing efforts.
- Attend internal staff meetings, planning sessions, training, and administrative meetings across BBBSLI locations to align departmental efforts and support organizational goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements
- Master’s degree required; preference given to fields such as human services, education, youth development, or public administration.
- LMSW and SIFI Certifications/Licenses required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in youth programming, nonprofit program management, or event coordination.
- Supervisory experience required, with the ability to manage staff and oversee multiple programs simultaneously.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable leading public presentations and community engagement efforts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of learning internal databases and design platforms (e.g., Canva, InDesign).
- Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, sit, lift up to 35 pounds, and perform event setup and breakdown duties. Travel across Nassau and Suffolk Counties is required. Evening and as needed weekend hours are part of this role.
