Maryland voters approved a referendum to legalize adult-use cannabis in the State effective July 1, 2023. This position will be a part of the State’s regulatory body for both medical and adult-use cannabis.

POSITION DUTIES
Under direction from the Director, this position is responsible for utilizing technical knowledge and experience along with leadership skills to oversee the activities of the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA)’s Laboratory Services. The Director, with the help of laboratory services staff, develops and implements policies and procedures for laboratory testing, compliance and product approval, ensures the regulatory oversight of registered independent testing laboratories, ensures the state reference laboratory maintains good standing with accreditation bodies, and continuously improves the business processes within laboratory services. Furthermore, the Director is responsible for monitoring and analyzing the latest scientific and laboratory literature, industry trends, and novel cannabis and cannabis products to inform policy and regulatory recommendations to MCA Executive Staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biological sciences, chemistry, or related field
Experience: Five (5) years of laboratory experience, preferably in a related laboratory. Two years of this experience must have involved the supervision of other employees.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
An advanced degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or related field
Experience in regulatory processes
Experience in product testing and approvals
