Job summary

Progress Rail in Muncie, IN, seeks a Program Manager II to lead multiple locomotive-related projects within the PMO. You will plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects, coordinating with upper management and other departments to ensure transparent health of scope and direction.

The role requires extensive project leadership, risk management, and communication skills, with travel 20–30%. A strong background in business or program management is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Business or Program Management or equivalent.
  • Experience using MS-Project, Primavera or other project management scheduling tool.
  • 10 years' experience on capital intensive, highly engineering, long life cycle product line.
  • Masters preferred; ERP exposure; PMP certification is highly preferred; locomotive knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects of Locomotive Builds, Research and Development, Rebuild and Repower, aftermarket products and power products.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Organize structure and manage project teams to meet project needs.
  • Lead development of a detailed project plan and communicate scope, goals and deliverables.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocate, control project costs and manage budget.
  • Perform risk management and create comprehensive project documentation.
  • Report project status to management and stakeholders; travel 20-30% as required.

Job Purpose:

The project manager I is part of the Project Management Office and will be responsible for several individual projects that are large in scope. The project manager I will be responsible to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of assigned projects. The project manager I will work closely with upper management to ensure transparency regarding the health of the scope and direction of each project, as well as other departments for support.

Education / Training:
  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Business or Program Management or equivalent;

  • Establish and maintain relationships all stakeholder within the project reach;
  • Ensures all deliverables of the contract are met;
  • Accept special assignments as needed;
  • Travel as required to perform duties (20-30%).
