CHAI is seeking a Manager/Senior Manager to lead diagnostic market-shaping activities within the Global Markets Team (GMT). You will design and maintain CHAI’s global supply-and-demand product strategies, own relationships with diagnostic companies, and collaborate with country teams and partners to expand access to high-quality, affordable diagnostics in LMICs.

The role requires 8+ years in strategy/consulting, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and up to 25% travel.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Program Overview

The CHAI Global Markets Team (GMT) strives to build healthy marketplaces to ensure the sustainable supply of vital medical commodities. In particular, the Global Markets Team helps life science companies understand what products are needed in low- and middle-income countries, what prices are sustainable, and how to navigate complex regulatory and procurement environments.

GMT is responsible for managing relationships with major pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies which includes negotiating access programs, licensing agreements, product development agreements, and volume guarantees, among other activities.

Example market shaping efforts that CHAI has been involved with include the following:

• Kenya is granted special Caffeine Citrate pricing after Clinton Health Access Initiative led negotiations with Ethypharm – Health Business
• CHAI and The Hepatitis Fund announce pricing breakthrough to reduce cost of viral hepatitis treatment by over 90 percent
• New agreement secures historic US$1 price for HIV self-test
• Global partnership to make available 120M affordable, quality COVID-19 rapid tests for low- and middle-income countries
• Price reduction agreement for contraceptive implants increased distribution by >50% and will save more than US$300M

Position Overview

SUPREME (Sustainable Equitable Care and Universal Resources for Eclampsia and Anaemia) is a four-year, Unitaid-funded programme that began in early 2026, working to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths across five countries — Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, and Tanzania — by improving access to quality-assured, affordable tools for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of pre-eclampsia/ eclampsia and maternal anaemia. Within the SUPREME portfolio, SECURE is a project led by CHAI and is focused on improving the availability of and access to priority maternal health products.

This Manager will lead key diagnostic market-shaping activities for GMT related to SECURE as well as other priority areas. Their primary objective will be to design, maintain, and update CHAI’s global supply-and demand-side product strategies, own relationships including leading negotiations with diagnostic companies, and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the creation of markets for new, affordable and high-quality diagnostic products in low- and middle-income markets. In doing so, the Manager will develop strong relationships with global and country teams within CHAI, as well as with diagnostic suppliers, technical partners, and key opinion leaders.

The Manager will also ensure that CHAI’s work in SECURE and other priority areas is coordinated with other international and research organizations focused on the same priority areas by playing a pivotal role in coordinating activities needed for market creation across organizations.

We are seeking a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with outstanding problem-solving abilities and communication skills that shares in CHAI’s mission and values. The Manager must be able to manage a few direct reports, function independently, cultivate productive external relationships, and have a strong commitment to excellence. CHAI also places great value on qualities such as humility, resourcefulness, and tenacity.

This role would be based in a CHAI program country, pending GMT and country team leadership approval. This role can be offered at either the Manager or Senior Manager Level, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. It will require up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

• Manage the supply-side strategy including deploying expertise in a range of relevant areas (product development and commercialization, financial and market analyses, and new product introduction) to ensure a robust, up-to-date, and strategically useful market perspective on priority products
• Design and implement market shaping strategies to increase access to key diagnostics; this includes leveraging CHAI’s country-level footprint to generate market insights and ensure linkage between global market shaping and country demand as well as leveraging global mechanisms for country access
• Work with GMT leadership, other CHAI teams and external stakeholders to develop work plans that support marketing shaping goals and achieve grant deliverables
• Manage the delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder projects ensuring high quality, on time delivery of objectives and deliverables, including managing outputs from subcontracted partner organizations
• Cultivate strong relationships with senior executives of diagnostics companies, and governmental, multilateral, and non-governmental organizations
• Lead negotiations with diagnostic companies on pricing and supply terms and support suppliers to develop commercial strategies that sustain their business and enable product access across LMICs
• Proactively monitor the ecosystem to identify risks and opportunities to shape market dynamics for priority products, surfacing risks and adapting program strategy as needed
• Represent CHAI effectively to major donors and external partners and proactively engage in relationship building to advance impact goals
• Engage scientific experts to provide technical support to suppliers as needed on topics ranging from product development, production planning, regulatory approval processes, quality issues, demand forecasting, etc.
• Build and maintain institutional capacity and facilitate opportunities for knowledge sharing and knowledge management
• Effectively manage oneself, direct, and/or indirect reports within a matrixed organization
• Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 8 or more years of work experience
• Experience working in the private sector, ideally in strategy consulting, and/or investment banking or similar fast-paced, results-oriented environments such as in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostic or medical device industries
• Exceptional analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and communication (written and verbal) skills; detail oriented
• Creative thinker, enabling development of transformational solutions to complex global health problems
• Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, propose and implement new ideas, and bring others along
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities
• Ability to absorb and synthesize a broad range of information, including financial, regulatory, diagnostic, and scientific information
