Program Project Lead - Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement, Indigenous Midwifery

Location: Remote (travel required)

Reports to: Director(s), Indigenous Midwifery

Salary: Salary range of $80,000 – $90,000 plus benefits

Midwives Association of British Columbia (MABC) is a professional non-profit association for midwives, promoting the profession of midwifery within the province of British Columbia and advocating for the ongoing development and enhancement of midwifery services. MABC provides continuing education opportunities for its members and professional services to its midwives.

The Midwives Association of BC is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to serve as the Program Project Lead for Indigenous Midwifery. This role is critical in advancing the research initiatives and evidence-based practices that support Indigenous midwifery in British Columbia. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research management, a deep understanding of Indigenous health issues, and a commitment to promoting culturally safe and respectful care for Indigenous communities. Program Project Lead, Indigenous Midwifery

Reporting to the Program Project Director, Indigenous Midwifery, the Program Project Lead is responsible for managing and administering the Indigenous Midwifery programs related to the Strategic Plan, liaising with Indigenous Midwifery membership, and managing program staff with a main focus on Community Engagement. Central to daily work will be analysing program data and updating related policies. The Program Project Lead will also support and participate in the establishment of projects and initiatives from design to implementation and evaluation.

Shared Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively within and across teams to ensure high quality programs and services for Indigenous midwifery members.
  • Provides support to other members of the staff team during periods of high workload.
  • Arranges, attends and participates in IMCBC Council and team meetings.
  • Develops an annual work plan with Indigenous Midwifery Directors in the context of the IMCBC strategic plan.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage research programs and projects focused on Indigenous midwifery practices and maternal health issues in British Columbia.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities, midwives, researchers, and stakeholders to identify priorities and develop initiatives and projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings related to Indigenous midwifery practices.
  • Ensure that projects adhere to ethical principles, cultural protocols, and Indigenous research methodologies.
  • Assist with budgets, funding applications, and grant reporting to secure financial resources for program activities.
  • Establish partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and funding agencies to support research collaborations and knowledge exchange.
  • Provide mentorship and support to staff, students, and community members engaged in projects.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, policies, and best practices in Indigenous health research to inform program development and implementation.
  • Act as the point person for IMCBC projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to program design and related policy and website updates.
  • Exercise professional judgement and initiative in the overall management of programs.

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a post graduate degree or equivalent professional designation is required.
  • At least four (4) years of recent experience which includes project coordination, analysis, implementation, and communications working in a healthcare environment is required.
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous qualified candidates as approved under Special Program Stat, BC Human Rights Commission.
  • Experience with Community Engagement in First Nation, Inuit and Metis Communities is an asset.
  • Education/training and experience in quantitative research methods, statistical analysis, qualitative research methods, and qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience with healthcare research or research administration is preferred.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Forms, SharePoint).
  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. Attention to detail a must.
  • A resourceful problem-solver who is able to anticipate project needs/risks who enjoys applying project management principles and methodologies to address challenges and implementing workflows grounded in best practices.
